Clare Spence - Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (BABCP),EMDR Practitioner
Have you had enough of struggling with your currrent difficulties? Do you want to feel better and have a greater control over your feelings and well being? I believe that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy could enable you to achieve this.
I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, accredited by the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). Before deciding to pursue my career in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy I qualified and worked as a Mental Health Nurse in a variety of settings. During this time I worked with many people with various forms of mental illness. Early on in my nursing career I was given the opportunity to do a short course in CBT and was able to use some of the skill within my nursing role. By having this opportunity I was able to see how effective the approach was for many people and decided it was the approach that I wanted to specialize in.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy focuses on how our interpretations of events effects how we think, feel and behave. If we interpret events in a negative way, then that in turn will result in an unpleasant feeling and effect how we behave. This cycle then reinforces the current negative beliefs and difficulties. During therapy we work together and between sessions you can put the skills into practice. By using the skills on a daily basis you will be able to see how you can make changes and take further control of your life.
My aim is to help you overcome your difficulties and to teach you the skills and techniques that can be used to ensure long term wellbeing.
I am also an Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) practitioner and a member of the EMDR Association UK and Ireland. Please see my web site www.cbt-works.com for further details.
