About me

I am a BACP accredited counsellor and have been working in General Practice, in the community working with the bereaved and in private practice since 2008.

I an integrative counsellor which means that I use different counselling approaches in order to be able to work with each client or couple in a way that works best for them.

Depending on what is brought to counselling I may encourage you to look back into past history and childhood experiences or it may be more relevant to work with the present and life circumstances as they are now.

I offer both short-term and longer term counselling and work with individuals living with the effects of abuse and those suffering from a wide range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, OCD, panic attacks, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, self-harm, bereavement and loss, issues related to sexuality and difficulties with anger.

I am a trained 'Emotionally Focused Couple Therapist' (EFT) working with couples who are experiencing problems in their relationship and offer a secure and structured way to look at recurring difficulties including problems with communication, intimacy and sexual difficulties, the effects on the relationship of past history and ways of handling conflict constructively.

Research consistently shows that what matters most in counselling is the relationship between the client and counsellor and my aim is to provide a confidential space where you feel accepted and understood and able to examine more deeply how you are feeling and what you are thinking and experiencing.

I offer an uninterrupted, non-judgemental relationship to help you understand and accept yourself with the compassion and kindness that is so often missing in our relationships, both with ourselves and with others and which can then lead to low self-esteem, depression and distress.

I believe that undertaking counselling can offer the opportunity to accept oneself more fully and a chance to find healing, peace of mind and the freedom to live a more contented and fulfilling life.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
