A little about me
I am a Humanistic Integrative therapist with a special interest and knowledge in the treatment of Personality Disorders, including Borderline Personality and Narcissistic Abuse Recovery. I help many people with a wide range of psychological problems at my private practice in Hertford, Hertfordshire and online via Skype or FaceTime.

Humanistic means I believe all human beings to have potential. Humanistic therapies focus on self-development and growth. We need the right environment to reach our potential, which is not always there whilst we grow up. Humanistic counselling, therefore, aims at providing an opportunity to recognise your strengths, creativity and choice in the ‘here and now’.
Psychodynamic counselling uses the therapeutic relationship to gain insight into unconscious relationship patterns that evolved since childhood. Memories, dreams and other evidence of early relationships are used to make sense of current concerns. This practice aims to help you make sense of your existing situation and of the feelings and thoughts and associated memories that are brought about by this situation. In psychodynamic counselling, these feelings, thoughts, images and even dreams can be looked at to gain a deeper understanding of how you relate to yourself and to others.
Integrative means that as a counsellor I use insights from a variety of models depending on what feels right for you. My approach is supportive and involved, empathic and sensitive. I talk in a straightforward way, often inviting you to explore patterns of behaving and relating with others. I aim to create a safe space for you to share and reflect, to increase awareness and deepen understanding of what is going on for you and what you truly want, and to find your own way forwards towards solutions, acceptance and healing. I may also help you to identify practical approaches which can help you in making changes in your everyday life.
I am able to help with a vast range of issues including complex trauma, anxiety and panic, depression, difficulties with relationships or with parenting, affairs and betrayals, personality problems, narcissistic abuse recovery, substance abuse, eating disorders and addiction. I use a wide range of therapeutic modalities to help clients which include Psychotherapy, CBT, DBT and Schema Therapy.

Training, qualifications & experience

My Psychotherapy Training, Experience and Approach
My journey in becoming a therapist started in 2013 where I studied a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling at the University of Hertfordshire, gaining this qualification in 2015. I then went on to further study Humanistic Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy at the CPPD Counselling School in Hornsey, North London. I qualified in 2017 with a Post Graduate Diploma (PgDip).

Since this time I have completed many courses, to include, DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy), Schema Therapy, Stress Management, Mindfulness, and Meditation. I use a number of these techniques to help my clients be kind and more compassionate to themselves. I have maintained my own daily meditation practice for a number of years and use mindfulness techniques with many of my clients as I find this vastly assists with a wide range of psychological difficulties.

I have a vast amount of experience; working with the elderly in a residential care environment; a Womens’ Centre with those who have suffered domestic violence, both psychological and physical abuse. I have worked with transition and bereavement in a hospice setting. I spent time working with those recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, and their rehabilitation back into society. Before setting up a Private Practice I spent two years working within a NHS doctors’ surgery based in North London where I had a very busy and varied practice. After the Grenfell tragedy in 2017 I worked with the victims and survivors with acute trauma for three months, offering intensive support throughout the night. Regardless of any prior experience, I am very happy to work with whatever you may bring and I welcome a diverse range of clients.

I have a very holistic approach, I am a keen Yogi and enjoying walking in nature with my dogs. I very much believe that moving our bodies and staying active is imperative for optimal mental health. How we live our lives, from looking at what we eat (I believe it important to follow a diet which is well balanced and rich in vegetables and nutrients) along with looking at our sleep habits, are imperative factors which if not quite right, can almost certainly hinder our emotional wellbeing.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their ethical framework.

My Practice
I see people in person from my garden cabin  in Hertford, Hertfordshire. My beautiful room is at the end of a 150ft therapeutic garden. The calming space is often filled with birdsong. My cabin room is a ten-minute walk from Hertford East railway station, a 29-minute walk from Hertford North railway station station or a minutes-walk from different bus routes,  I work over FaceTime or Skype.

Data Protection and Privacy
I am committed to the protection of your data and privacy. Details on how I manage client data is available on request.

Please do remember that you are not your thoughts and feelings. You are the space in which they come and go.

If you would like to make an appointment, please do get in touch.

Clare

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
