About me

I work part-time for the NHS offering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to adults and adolescents suffering anxiety, stress and depression and I also have a small private practice. I believe a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for all my work and draw on my counselling training to inform all my therapeutic practice.

I offer a warm, safe environment for you to explore your difficulties. I work in a collaborative manner, adapting my theoretical understanding of a problem to each client I meet. Each of my clients is an individual and I endeavour to understand their unique experience of the world, and what might be keeping them stuck at this time.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural  Psychotherapist and a qualified humanistic counsellor.

I am registered with both the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP) and I am an Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

I have a degree in Psychology (Leicester University, 1991) and a Foundation Degree in Transactional Analysis (Humanistic Counselling) (Middlesex University, 2013).

I also have a Post-Graduate Certificate in CBT (Oxford University, 2011) and a post-graduate Diploma in CBT (Oxford University, 2014).

I have extensive experience of evidence-based treatment protocols including depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, panic, agoraphobia, social phobia and generalised anxiety disorder. I aim to facilitate my clients to build their self-esteem and sense of self-worth, empowering them to become their own therapist and to continue their self-improvement even after therapy has finished.

I have a special interest in ADHD and Asperger’s Spectrum Disorder. I also have experience of working with adults with learning disabilities. I offer couples therapy, and work in the Integrative Behavioural Couples Therapy model.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

Fees available on application. The assessment session is a time for us to explore your reasons for coming to therapy, the nature of your difficulties and for you to decide if you can work with me.

The therapeutic relationship is paramount for our work so there is no obligation to work with me if you do not feel comfortable. I offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation to help you decide if you feel you would like to meet with me to explore your issues further.
