About me

I am a qualified Integrative Psychotherapist registered by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), and Counsellor registered by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (Registered Member MBACP). I have a private practice in East Oxford offering short term and long term counselling and psychotherapy for individuals.

Why come to therapy?

We can all go through difficult times and experience painful emotions. Sometimes we can manage our difficulties by talking them through with friends and family. However, this may not always be possible and you might feel stuck, isolated or overwhelmed. It is at times like these that it can be helpful, even a relief, to get a fresh perspective and seek support from a therapist, who can provide you with a safe and confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences.

What I offer

I work in a compassionate, non- judgmental and respectful way with clients from all walks of life on a wide range of psychological and emotional issues. These include:

  • relationship difficulties
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • traumatic events; physical, sexual or emotional abuse; PTSD
  • loneliness
  • difficulty expressing feelings; feeling numb
  • difficulty regulating and controlling emotions
  • anger
  • shame and guilt
  • low self-esteem
  • identity (cultural/gender/sexuality)
  • coping with chronic illness
  • career/life decisions
  • work-related issues (stress, bullying, work relationships)

What can you expect?

I work as an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist which means I have been trained in a range of psychotherapeutic approaches and am able to tailor my approach to fit your specific needs. As we explore your current difficulties we may look at the emotional, social and physical aspects of your experience. We will look at your present as well as your past experiences, which influence how you live now and the relationships you have with other people.

Working collaboratively in this way can help you make sense of what you are feeling and why, giving you a deeper understanding of yourself, finding new ways to cope, and different ways of responding to your current difficulties.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

What next?

If you are considering counselling/psychotherapy but are not sure if it is right for you, we can arrange an initial consultation to discuss your concerns. An initial consultation carries no obligation to continue.

I am a professional member of Oxford Therapy and Self-Development Centre (OTS).  OTS provides me with a network of therapists that I can refer clients to if my list is full or if I feel an individual needs specialist help that I am not trained to provide. OTS is also committed to finding affordable solutions for those unable to meet the costs associated with therapy and so if my low cost places are filled I am also able to refer on to other therapists who provide a low cost service.

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
