About me

Qualified, approachable, warm and down-to-earth psychotherapist.

Whatever you want to focus on right now - I provide a safe, confidential arena in which we can work together to explore it, to deepen your understanding of why you find yourself where you are and, if you want to change it, work towards something different.

We all deserve to live full, meaningful and satisfying lives, and as a humanistic psychotherapist I believe that everyone has the capacity to do so. However, pressures of everyday life, our experiences and our habits can sometimes get in the way.

Hundreds of thousands of people across the UK seek support through therapy every year. Each has their own, personal reasons for doing so.

You may have a clear idea of what you want to focus on; perhaps a specific issue such as bereavement or loss; anxiety or depression; self-esteem; anger management; difficulty in a personal or professional relationship; work / life balance; a health issue.

It may be that you feel unsatisfied with something, or feel “lost” or “overwhelmed” and know that you want something to change but are not quite able to put your finger on what it is.

Or you may just want the chance to talk something through with someone to get a different perspective or clarify your thoughts.

Whatever you bring, my intention is that our work together is supportive, empowering, inspiring and challenging, and provide you with new understanding and practical tools which will serve you, not only during our work together but for the months and years after our work is complete.

I work collaboratively with clients towards their therapeutic goals, which we review together ongoingly.

I’m particularly passionate about wellbeing and supporting people to have a kind and caring relationship with themselves.  Nature is a wise teacher through her natural cycles and rich diversity. She often finds her way into my work with clients through metaphor or using natural materials in representation or creative exercises. I also offer seasonal well-being programs helping Londoners to understand their own natural cycles and to enjoy the pleasure and power of spending time outside - for more on this see www.natureasurture.com.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with their Ethical Framework.

Training, qualifications & experience

I currently work with individuals at Barnsbury Therapy Rooms in Islington and run groups and wellbeing sessions outside in nature.

Alongside my private practice I have worked as a counsellor at the Camden, City, Islington and Westminster Bereavement Service where I have supported clients with grief and loss, childhood sexual abuse, relationship issues, self-esteem and depression.

I trained in Humanistic Psychotherapy at Spectrum Centre for Humanistic Psychotherapy, and continue my supervision and continued professional development there.

I work in an integrative and creative way, drawing on a number of different approaches including Gestalt (working with awareness) and Formative Psychology (how we shape our experience).

I also hold a Practitioner Certificate in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). Although this is not central to the way I work I may occasionally draw on these structures if I believe they will be helpful to the client sitting opposite me.

Before training in psychotherapy I worked in international development as part of my strong commitment to justice and improving the lives of people across the world.  I particularly enjoyed working closely with communities to help them achieve the changes they wanted to see for themselves and their future generations.  In this work, my focus was very much on empowerment, facilitating the communities to make changes for themselves by providing the finances or materials they could not access, rather than imposing my views. I carry this same attitude into my therapy work today.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with their Ethical Framework.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
