About me

I am now able to offer sessions via video link or telephone, please get in contact if you'd like to know more.

Welcome.

I understand that trying to find a therapist can be a daunting process, so I hope the information I’ve provided here helps to answer some of your questions. If you would like to know more please get in contact – I can discuss therapy in more detail with you; over the phone, by email or in person.

I am a Clinical Psychologist and this means that I am trained at doctoral level to deliver evidence based therapy from a wide range of therapeutic models. As a psychologist I am particularly interested in tailoring therapy to the individual, and I can select the ideas from different therapies which will be most helpful to you, providing a bespoke approach.

My training also means that I am qualified to work with lots of different presentations and difficulties. People come to therapy for many different reasons including psychological, emotional, personal and relational problems. Some people also come to therapy without any specific issues and may be more interested in exploring ideas such as identity, childhood and hopes for the future.

I am passionate about working collaboratively, that is, working together to explore and understand the reasons why individuals come to therapy. I find that working in this way provides the firm grounding in the therapeutic relationship, and allows us to start thinking about change and growth.

My Experience

I have worked in psychological services since 2005 mostly with adults but also with children, adolescents and families; offering time to think, understand and improve their wellbeing. My experience is wide ranging and has included mental health difficulties, relationship issues and supporting those with physical health problems. I also have experience in working with existential difficulties.

I have spent my career working in the NHS and local authority settings, alongside my private practice.

Which Therapies Can I Offer?

I am trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, Systemic Therapy (Family Therapy), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

I am also influenced by other ideas such as attachment theory and developmental trauma .

I believe it is important to appreciate that each individual comes with unique requirements, and I am able to tailor my approach to each client, specific to their needs.

What should I expect when I contact you?

When you contact me I will aim to get back to you on the same day for a brief discussion over the phone about what you would like to work on in therapy. We will arrange a time to meet for an initial assessment.

During our first meeting we will consider if I am able to offer the support you need and whether you think we can work well together. There is no obligation to arrange any further sessions at this point. If we do decide to meet again we will then use the next sessions to plan what you want to focus on and we will start our therapeutic work.

How many sessions will I need?

It’s difficult to know exactly how many sessions each individual will have. Some people benefit from a couple of sessions, whilst others might decide to opt for longer term therapy. This is something we will discuss when we first meet.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Psychology (2005-2008); University of Bournemouth
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Advice Work, with Distinction (2008-2009); Canterbury Christ Church University
  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (2011-2014); University of Southampton

I am affiliated with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Membership confirm the reliability and validity of my qualifications and my professional status, as well as my credibility as a competent and effective Clinical Psychologist.
