Christine Whitehorn HND
The Snug At Rosemerryn
I offer a holistic counselling and therapy service covering South West Cornwall. I am here to help with your problems in a confidential and non-judgemental way.
By exploring the behaviour, emotions and thoughts affecting you, I can offer the space and support to help you to be honest about your troubles, be truthful to yourself and then re-focus and adapt to life's changes and challenges in a positive way. I try to offer a holistic approach to counselling as I believe that there are many factors affecting a person's welbeing.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a HND qualified counsellor with over fifteen years experience.
After years of working in various retail sectors and the lifestyle industry I realised that I had the ability to listen and identify peoples underlying needs which in turn led me to realise I had a vocation to help people. I developed this further by enrolling on my first counselling course in 1998 which led to me completing a Higher National Diploma in Counselling in 2001.
I also have a City & Guilds Further and Adult Education Teachers' Certificate (7307) which I have used to teach Counselling Level One.
I have employed my counselling skills and knowledge in a variety of settings. Before moving to Cornwall I established a counselling service for young people aged 11 to 18 in a 1200 pupil comprehensive school, addressing areas of abuse, anger management, behavioural problems, bullying, loss and grief and low self esteem.
I have worked voluntarily with terminally ill children and their families in a hospice and victims of domestic violence in a women's refuge.
After moving to Cornwall in 2001 I worked ten years for Victim Support as the Witness Service Manager at Truro Crown Court. This very challenging role has employed my skills on a daily basis helping victims of crime, their families and witnesses to come to terms and deal with the consequences of their experiences. This has covered a range of situations from murder, rape and sexual abuse through to readjustment after life changing injury and experience.
I now bring this wealth of experience to private practice and look forward to helping many more people in the years to come.
