About me

Hi, my name is Christine, I am 52 years old and a fully qualified, accredited, Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and Hypnotherapist with the National Counselling Society, and National Hypnotherapy Society. I also hold an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

I have recently taken early retirement from my role as a Community Staff nurse in order to further pursue my passion for counselling and helping others.

My 30 years within Nursing has provided me with the privilege and experience of working with people from every background, and shows that whatever our age or wherever we come from, we are all at risk of developing physical and/or mental health issues.

Working together...

My passion lies in being able to offer warm, empathic guidance towards reaching a desired change for clients, who are suffering with personal problems that are effecting their quality of life. I have experience in working with people who suffer from irrational fears, unwanted negative thoughts, phobias, anxiety, depression, low self esteem to name just a few.

I use multi model therapies, such as Cognitive behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy, and Transactional analysis, amongst others which are selected according to the client and their problem.

I always use a client-centred, empathic and non-judgemental approach.

I am available to do online and telephone counselling, as well as 1:1 Counselling.
Hopefully you will find my charge very competitive as my priority is to help others rather than make a profit. The reason being is my total passion and commitment towards using proven therapeutic measures to help others.

£5 per email
£25 per 1:1 hourly session.

I am happy to do home visits where transport/mobility/illness is a problem, however i will need to charge an additional £5 to cover travel costs.

A bit about me

In addition to being a practicing Counsellor/Hypnotherapist, I have also worked as a Community Registered General Nurse which I've recently retired from after practicing for 29 years.

Through my work I enjoy the priviledge of meeting lots of different people with a variety of both physical and/or mental health problems.

Part of this role involved supporting carers and other family members.

This experience has enhanced my desire to help others, and Counselling now allows me the much needed time to listen and work together with my clients to reach an individually tailored plan of care.
Our plan of care can be adjusted and is flexible depending on the results.

We all deserve the time to be heard in a warm confidential and non judgemental manner. The positive results gained through client centred counselling can enable us to move forward and confidently face our difficulties.

I personally have  undergone counselling/therapy and felt the real positive results for myself.

As well as the above the above, I am a qualified hypnotherapist which has shown proven positive results in areas such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, pain, low self esteem, exam/interview fears, phobias, smoking cessation, weight loss and many others. NB It is essential to see you GP first, if seeking hypnotherapy for pain/ or physical health concerns

Examples of areas in which I've gained  experience and success, include treatment for irrational fears, anxiety, depression, phobias and overcoming unwanted habits such as nail biting, and smoking cessation.

About online/telephone counselling

Recently, I've practiced online therapy with clients who've worked away, and then arranged 1:1 sessions for their return.

Due to illness/age related problems/caring/or other difficulties many people are unfortunately house bound or time limited. In these situations either telephone or email counselling can provide the lifeline that individuals need.
I'm also happy to do home visits should the client prefer.

Online therapy has certain advantages, in that clients can re-read their own emails and often with gentle guidance are able to identify their own potential thinking errors. They can also re-read the therapist's emails and, through linking both together, are enabled to become a proactive participant in their own recovery.

However, one to one therapy/counselling provides the additional benefits of warmth and mutual trust which are best developed within a safe, comfortable and stress-free environment.

No problem is too insignificant, too strange or too complex to be helped through counselling. We all deserve to be our true, authentic, selves which often means giving some time for self healing.

Understandibly, many people hold the view that families and friends can mutually support and help one another which indeed may be true. However well meaning though, some advice can be potentially detrimental.
For many people, it is  much easier to open their hearts to a stranger who they know will not judge or provide unhelpful advice. It also helps knowing that lots of people share similar (though never identical) problems, and that issues are never insignificant or strange when they effect our mental health and well being.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have undertaken 3 years training with the Chrysalis course where I succeeded in gaining Diplomas in Psychotherapeutic Counselling/Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy. I have also recently passed my Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapeutic counselling. In addition I am an Registered General Nurse R.G.N.

I have a supervisor, indemnity insurance, DRB/CRB checks, and References.

My 28 years of working within the district nursing profession has provided me with a wealth of experience in working with people from various backgrounds. This has proven to me, that whatever our backgrounds,we are all capable of experiencing difficult and painful issues.

However, I feel that all problems can be  therapeutically treated with the correct individual understanding and tailored therapy.

NB I also do home visits but charge an additional £5 for petrol/travel time depending on location.

Finally, I am keen to be of assistance to potential clients in Hornsea and surrounding villages.

Further information

I am a member of the National Counselling Society and they are an organisation that has been awarded the Accredited Voluntary Register (AVR), this is a new scheme set up by the Department of Health, and administered by an independent body, accountable to Parliament. The Accreditation Mark is recognisable to the general public to enable them to identify a competent counsellor.

The National Counselling Society's Accredited Voluntary Register offers a way to search and contact counsellors who are on an Accredited Voluntary Register. This means the accredited counsellors on the register meet high standards, and that as a counsellor on this register I have been vetted and approved.

In addition to being a member of the National Counselling society, I am also a professional member of the National Hypnotherapy Society.
