About me

Hello and welcome to my profile.

My name is Christine and I am a fully qualified Person-Centred Counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy. Currently I offer short term online and telephone therapy.

How can Counselling help you?

You may be feeling stressed, anxious, depressed or just out of sorts, sometimes not even knowing why. It may not be possible to talk to your friends and family as there is very often an expectation of "how to be" around them. They may also try to "fix you" which doesn't give the opportunity to be heard or explore how you really feel. Denying or dampening down these feelings can lead to the uncomfortable feelings of psychological distress. This pressure and expectation in the outside world can be lessened in a therapeutic interaction with me. I base my work on the core values and attitudes of the person-centred approach which are being empathic, accepting and genuine with all my clients regardless of what you bring. These conditions are "ways of being" that are embedded in me, developed by my own self-awareness which is crucial in being an effective therapist. In this unique interaction you can bring about positive change by gaining insight and self-awareness, problem solving and developing new strategies for living.

How long do sessions last and how frequently are they?

Currently I offer six, one hour sessions on a weekly basis.

What happens in our first session?

In our first session I will ask you some questions surrounding what brings you to therapy and what you would like from it. I will also make sure you are aware of and understand matters of confidentiality which will allow you choice in what to disclose. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about me and the way I work which will enable you to decide whether I am right for you. If you decide at the end of our first session together that you don't want to continue with me that is absolutely fine.

If you have any questions or issues regarding therapy please don't hesitate to contact me.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
