Christine Cooper MBACP (Accred). Counsellor
Are you feeling depressed, anxious or been affected by a traumatic event?
Would it help to talk to someone?
We all experience difficult events in our life that cause us distress and worry and we sometimes don't know how to deal with them. Supportive family and friends can be helpful but will find it difficult to be objective and unbiased.
Talking to a counsellor gives you the freedom to be honest about what is happening in your life and give you the opportunity to find new or different ways to deal with worries and make appropriate changes.
As your counsellor, my goal will be to support and empower you to identify, understand and address what is affecting you by listening, being genuine and non judgemental.
Going to see a counsellor for my own issues helped me immensely. Afterwards, I knew my direction was to train as a counsellor myself to support my belief that if the right conditions are provided, EVERY individual has the ability to bring about positive changes in their life.
The foundation of my training began in Person Centred theory and further training allows me to use elements of Cognitive behavioural, Compassion focussed and Solution focussed therapy to offer individuals a variety of alternative viewpoints.
I am qualified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which has proved very effective in dealing particularly with trauma and PTSD.
I am also a Specialist mentor to students with mental and emotional difficulties and have more than 10 years experience working in Mind and NHS trusts.
I am BACP accredited, I follow the BACP ethical framework, receive regular Supervision and undertake Continuous Professional Development. I hold a current enhanced DBS certificate and have professional liability insurance.
