We can sometimes feel a need to talk to somebody, in a safe and confidential space, who is not part of our ordinary daily lives and who is separate from the other people in our life. I will offer you that safe space, to feel really heard and I will listen to your concerns and problems. You will not feel pushed into making any decisions or changes in your life, but will be supported in whatever you choose to do. I will be led by your needs.
I am a qualified humanistic integrative counsellor working in the Preston Park area of Brighton. I offer individual, face to face counselling. My aim is to work with you, integrating different counselling interventions in order for you to achieve what you want to achieve from counselling.
I do not tell you what to do, but I listen very carefully to what you want to talk about and will notice things to you that I think might be helpful. Life experiences can teach us to behave in a way which others find acceptable in us, leading to such things as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low self-confidence. My aim, through the counselling relationship we build together, is for you to discover who you really are and to feel totally accepted for being who you really are. I offer a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore your concerns and feelings, allowing you to find a way to become your true self again.
Some people attend counselling because of relationship issues or family issues, or stress due to a situation it feels impossible to change. It can be useful to explore the situation together fully so that you can better understand the situation you face, understand how we cannot change other people, but can make really helpful changes within ourselves that brings some relief to the situation.
I am also a specialist alcohol and substance abuse counsellor. In my work with clients with alcoholism and other addiction issues, I often work in a brief solution-focused way. This tends to be future and goal focused. I will help you to think about what type of future you would really like to have, even if this might seem a long way off at the moment and we can think together about how this might be realistically achieved.
I have worked with a leading national charity specialising in substance misuse treatment since 2012. Also, I worked as a volunteer counsellor with Age UK Brighton and Hove for just under three years.
I am a full member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP) and I adhere to the BACP's code of ethics. I have a diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and have passed the BACP's Certificate of Proficiency. I hold a BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology.
I have worked in a variety of other roles, including education and business and have personally benefitted from counselling.

I also worked as a volunteer counsellor with Age UK Brighton and Hove for just under three years and have volunteered as a counsellor with Place2Be since the start of 2016.
