Chris Purnell - Attachment-based Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist (UKCP reg)
I am a registered and accredited psychotherapist with more than 20 years post qualification experience and I work in a private practice based in Telford.
I can offer brief counselling and also long term psychotherapy, according to your individual needs. I usually offer a face to face initial consultation. This is usually for 1 hour and is free of charge. During this session we can talk a little about the difficulties that you are experiencing and also determine whether I am the person to help you further.
I have a wide range of expertise and experience is reflected in the 'counselling areas I deal with' section below.
If you feel that I may be able to help you then please feel free to contact me to ask any questions that you may have or to arrange an initial consultation.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am an Attachment-based Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, trained at the Bowlby Centre in London, and I am accredited and registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). You can find out more about attachment and psychotherapy by visiting my website.
My original professional background is in youth and community work and I worked for 20 years with disaffected young people in various settings, both in London and in Shropshire.
Having re-trained as a psychotherapist, for the past 20 years I have run a private practice. Within this time-span I have also worked from a hospice setting providing counselling for people living in the community with HIV and AIDS and I also worked as a founder member of a local charity that provides counselling for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
I also have 10 years experience of working as a psychotherapist and clinical manager in NHS mental health services. This was within a very busy psychotherapy service that dealt with a very large number of referrals, mainly from GPs and Primary Care. As such, I have experience of working with a very wide diversity of people and their associated problems or difficulties, and an understanding of the workings of mental health services.
The areas that I am experienced in working with include relationship issues that you might be experiencing with partners, children and families, problems relating to anxiety and depression, feelings of low confidence and self- esteem, traumas caused by physical, emotional and sexual abuse, attachment issues, personality disorders, childhood related traumas, autism - particularly Apergers syndrome, sex and sexuality, loss and bereavement, work-related stress, dissociation. This list is not exhaustive, and so if you feel that I might be able to help you then feel free to contact me for an initial consultation with no obligation.
Currently I work exclusively in private practice.
