If you are feeling overwhelmed by challenges of what’s happening currently; from painful past experiences; or feeling at a crossroads and not sure of the way forward, you might find it helpful to talk to someone outside of your friends and family. It could be that you need help with certain patterns of behaviour and thoughts that have brought on depression, anxiety and/or physical symptoms.
Recognising that there are times when we need help and asking for it is never easy, especially when we may feel at a low ebb and emotionally vulnerable.
What to expect in your first session
As a therapist I offer a safe and confidential space for you to voice and explore what’s going on for you and help you find ways to make beneficial changes to whatever is not working. The way I work is flexible and depending entirely on the needs of my clients. My philosophy is that each person is unique and deserves that I work with them individually and specifically. Through the therapy you will learn to pay more attention to your thoughts in a more conscious way and have more choice to let go of more critical and unhelpful ones.
You can choose whether you think short or longer term counselling/psychotherapy would work best for you.
My work experience
I have been working as a counsellor/psychotherapist for the past 15 years.I have worked in 2 surgeries and 3 schools, and am currently working in an NHS surgery as well as my private practice.
Before this I worked in the television industry.
I work with people whose issues include stress and anxiety; trauma and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); depression; relationships; work difficulties; self-esteem; anger management; bereavement and loss; sexuality; abuse; addiction.
Where I work from
I work from 3 places:
1) Revitalise Hove at 86 Church Road, Hove.
2) Revitalise Brighton at 123A Western Road, Hove, Brighton.
Revitalise is a centre specialising in offering different therapies and classes.
Unfortunately there is not access for mobility issues at either centre.
There are parking facilities nearby.
3) And from Springfield Road, Brighton, BN1 (near Preston circus).
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained at the Metanoia Institute in London (affiliated with the Middlesex University).
My training was predominantly in the person-centred approach, the core conditions being unconditional positive regard, empathy and genuineness in the therapeutic relationship. I now work integratively, and my training has been broadened by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and other routes. I have also had additional training in working with the bereaved, with adolescents and with those who have had issues around addiction. I have recently attended further training workshops including on trauma and the body, working with PTSD, CBT.
I have been an accredited member of the BACP for 10 years, and I am now registered as a health provider with BUPA. I have regular clinical integrative supervision to ensure my work is of a high standard.
