About me

I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with extensive experience of working in a variety of NHS and private sector inpatient, primary and secondary care mental health services, as well as more traditional counselling settings.  I also currently work within an inpatient service in private healthcare. I am fully qualified with both the Health and Care Professionals Council and British Psychological Society. Through my clinical work, in particular within community and inpatient mental health settings, I have wide experience of working with a range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, panic disorder, trauma, abuse, psychosis, relationship difficulties, personality disorders, addiction, bereavement, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias and bipolar disorder.

My core training was in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapies, however I have undertaken further training in Cognitive Analytic Therapy, EMDR, Mentalisation Based Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy. As I believe that each person’s experience is unique I will often integrate several of these therapeutic models, which allows me to be flexible and adaptive to your needs. However, I base all of my practice in a warm, open, non-judgmental and compassionate therapeutic relationship as such a relationship is key to successful therapy

In a previous career, I have also worked within Organisational Psychology and as a management consultant for more than 10 years, thus bring an understanding of the unique challenges and stressors of working in organisational environments. Furthermore, I have a particular interest in mental health within sport and have supported elite level athletes with their unique challenges in relation to mental health.

I offer appointments from two comfortable, professional locations in Durham City and Sacriston (just outside Durham) with easy access by public transport or car.

Please call or email me to set up an initial 60 minute assessment session. During this we can find out about what is causing you distress and how I may be able to help. Following the initial assessment we can then agree any future appointments.
