  • “Sometimes we just need someone to listen and understand without judging”

Who I work with

I work with adults, couples, families and young people to deal with anger, anxiety, depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), domestic violence, sexual abuse (including childhood sexual abuse), social anxiety, disassociation, phobias, Obsessive Compulsion Disorder (OCD), stress, goal setting, bullying, loneliness, bereavement, loss and other significant trauma.

If clients have a fear of being touched I can use Body Psychotherapy to help them connect physically, emotionally and mentally, thus enabling them to let go of their hidden anxieties including the unspoken shame and guilt that lies within.

My Counselling Approach

I am highly experienced in working with ethnic minorities and regularly offers sessions in Gujarati.  I have a keen interest in working with clients affected by trauma, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of domestic violence, sexual assault including childhood sexual abuse, bullying, phobias, forced marriages, FGM, fleeing war and terrorism, asylum and immigration issues.  I have written reports for court hearings and attended court as an expert witness.

I work integratively and collaboratively with clients to help them understand how the mind and body affect each other, using a holistic approach.  I can help clients work through traumatic experiences without having to verbalise events, if they are too overwhelming.  My approach includes using TF-CBT, EMDR, EFT, Rewind Technique and Mindfulness in order to reduce distress, panic, anxiety and depression.  I offer a positive psychological approach by motivating clients to make emotional and behavioural changes in order to build up self-esteem and improve their mood.

Relationships between two or more individuals can be very stressful and can impact work/life balance.  I believe that all relationships include working collaboratively and compassionately as a team and this includes helping clients to build a relationship with themselves.  I help clients navigate their way through their difficult journey, offering hope along the way.

I supervise complementary therapy practitioners and psychotherapists in group and individual settings working with their preferred models, whilst sharing insight of my own.  This helps me to continue my journey by learning from others.

I sometimes use creative mediums such as Play Therapy, in order to work experientially when clients cannot find the words to express themselves.

My Philosophy

My philosophy is to work relationally with clients, in order that they can get their voice heard, and I believe that (by booking a session with me) this is their time and their space to be themselves, even if this means getting to know who they are in today’s world.

I offer clinical supervision in English and Gujarati to trainee and qualified counsellors of different modalities by video or face to face in Twickenham.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
