About me

Hello, my name is Cheryl and I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with over 9,000 hours and 9 years private practice experience.

I am the Founder and Manager of the Heswall Hills Counselling Centre a private therapy centre based in Heswall Hills on the Wirral.

Finding the right therapist can be a daunting process. All of the therapists working from the centre have been selected by me to ensure that they are suitably trained and most importantly of the sort of therapists I’ll be happy to refer to.

Due the number of different therapists, including psychologists and CBT therapists we are able to a wide of therapeutic specialities including:

Anxiety (including panic & phobias), depression, bereavement, eating disorders, addictions, trauma, low confidence & low self esteem, work related stress, therapy for children & young people from the age of 5, C.B.T, clinical hypnotherapy, adoption, couples therapy, psychosexual therapy, sexual violence, coaching, clinical supervision, OCD, birth trauma, weight management and dementia.

All therapists working from the centre have training and experience in their chosen specialties and have undergone a lengthy vetting process by myself. This offers members of the public the reassurance that the centre caters for a wide range of therapeutic needs and that all the therapists are sound practitioners.

Prices vary from £40 session depending on therapists particular experience and some therapists offer concessionary rates.

If you would like to be referred into the centre please e mail me, stating your main presenting issues and times when you are available for an appointment and following a telephone call I will decide which therapist is best suited to your individual requirements.

Some of our therapists are registered to work with E.A.P's and insurance companies.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

For Therapists wishing to work from the centre

Some referrers such as Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs) and insurance companies have certain stipulations which are difficult to adhere to when working from home. For example a room which is solely used as a therapy room, has a separate entrance from the main part of your home, a waiting area and separate toilet facilities. These conditions can be difficult to meet when setting up private practice from your home address and as a consequence therapists will be unwitting limiting the number of clients they may receive.

Therefore hiring a consulting room on an hourly, sessional or permanent basis ensures that you will be able to fulfil the requirements of external referrers.

If you are a therapist who operates from Heswall Hills Counselling Centre on a regular basis you will be offered the opportunity to build your practice by accepting referrals from potential clients who access the Centre through the website. Potential clients will be assessed by the Manager and referred to a suitable therapist who best matches the client’s needs. As such all therapists who work from the centre will need to be vetted initially by the Manager to ensure they are suitably qualified and insured to work at the centre. Only therapists who have gone through this vetting procedure will be allowed to work from the centre and accept referrals through the website.

Heswall Counselling Centre offers five therapy rooms; two smaller rooms, one medium room and a large room. Each room is furnished solely for the use as a therapy room with three comfortable chairs and a side table.

Occasional use

This room rental package provides therapists with complete flexibility to book rooms as and when required. Rooms are hired out by the hour.
