Charlie Allanson-Oddy MSc
Edinburgh Institute Of Counselling And Psychotherapy
I am a Consultant Psychological Therapist with NHS Lothian. I have 10 years experience in the practice of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies and a small private practice. I believe that psychological distress is part of our human condition and that the courage to accept and work with this can be encouraged and nurtured through relationships.
The therapeutic relationship can be the focus for change in many aspects of our experience, be it cognitive (thought and image), emotional, behavioural, physical, environmental and interpersonal. I work with people to improve quality of life through value based behavioural change.
Training, qualifications & experience
I began counselling training in 1999 and subsequently studied Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT) with The University of Dundee, based at Ninewells Hospital, in 2005. I followed my Post-graduate Diploma with completion of my Masters in 2010.
Having spent over ten years working in substance use and general adult mental health, I worked at The Rivers Centre for Traumatic Stress and am now with NHS Lothian's Veterans First Point providing mental health assessment and treatment for a range of difficulties.
I am registered with the British Association for Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (BABCP), working to their code of ethics.
