Change Birmingham Brief Therapy is a registered charity that has been established in Birmingham since 1991. Change is run by volunteer counsellors and provides affordable counselling for a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement, grief and loss, personal and family relationship issues, etc.
Change also provides counselling for teachers and education support workers who work for Birmingham LEA for both work related and personal issues.
Counselling sessions are approx 50 minutes long and are offered on a variety of daytime and evening appointments.

Change is located near to New Street Station and the Mail Box and so is easily accessible by bus and train. There is on street pay and display parking on the street outside our premises which is 70p per hour in the daytime and free after 6pm.
Change were the first voluntary agency in the UK to specialise in Solution Focused Counselling - a model which is becoming ever more widely used in the fields of therapy, social work and education. This counselling approach focuses on the client's strengths and resources.
Change also provide Solution Focused Training for those in the caring and helping professions such as counsellors, psychotherapists, teachers, doctors, etc. and these BACP Endorsed 2 day training events are held regularly throughout the year. The next course is scheduled for Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 April 2012.
Change also offers a 'Certificate' course in Solution Focused therapy which covers 5 modules over 5 weekends. The five modules include: Foundation Unit; Added Skills Unit; The Work of Language; Ethics; and How Will You Make a Difference?
Change is delighted to be able to offer the Change Certificate in Youth Counselling. Please contact Change for further details. Please note that the entry criteria to attend this training is for the applicant to have achieved a Diploma in Counselling.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
Change is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and aims to work within the Ethical Framework for Good Practice set out by the BACP.
Change has been established since 1991 and has provided counselling for a large number of clients. Our counsellors have experience of dealing with a wide range of issues including grief and loss, anxiety, depression, stress, personal relationship issues, workplace issues including harrassment and bullying, abuse, addictions, OCD, etc.
Change also offers BACP endorsed Solution Focused 2 day training events twice a year, in April and October which are aimed at all those in the helping and caring profession such as counsellors, teachers, education support workers, etc. who want to enrich their current knowledge and skills through the use of Solution Focused techniques.

Fees
Change Birmingham Brief Therapy is a registered charity that runs solely on grants and donations from our clients. Counselling sessions cost approximately £50 per hour and so we ask our clients to make a contribution towards this cost.
Change understand that many clients will not be able to make a full donation of £50 and so we ask clients to make a donation on the following scale:
Unemployed £10
Up to £10,000 £15
Up to £20,000 £25
Up to £30,000 £35
£30,000 + £45
Further Information
Change has two consulting rooms for hire.The smaller room is ideal for individual and couple counselling. The larger room is ideal for individual, couple and group therapy (maximum of 8 in group). The rooms can be hired on a regular or one off basis.
By hiring the rooms, you will benefit from:
Access to a Change receptionist who will meet and greet your clients. Refreshments are available at an extra cost.

Change also offers a Certificate in Solution Focused Practice which is comprised of 5 units:
Unit 1 - Foundation which is the introductory unit. Learners will examine a range of Solution Focused Skills.
Unit 2 - Added Skills. This unit expands on the practice of key Solution Focused Skills and encourages learners to consider adaptation and personal touches to their delivery.
Unit 3 - The Work of Language. This unit will lead to increased awareness of the function of language, how meaning is formed and why the work of language is central to Solution Focused Practice.
Unit 4 - Ethics. This module aims to tackle some of the common dilemmas that tend to repeat themselves in everyday practice. These include issues related to chronic service users, ethical dilemmas and codes of practice.
Unit 5 - How will you make a difference? This unit draws together all the elements of the journey so far; the key skills, the professional passport, the portfolio development and unit assessment.
