I can help you to explore your difficulties and find those inner resources and powers you have that will help you overcome this troublesome time. When we are troubled by the pressures of daily life, decisions, changes or by our past it can help to share this with someone who cares and will spend the time with you, listening in a non judgemental way. You may not even have to use words as I am qualified to use creative methods in order to help you discover and resolve your difficulties in other ways.
I can provide therapy via a secure video/online service such as PlusGuidance/Vsee/FaceTime (Not Skype) for people who have difficulty in getting to me physically. For example for people who suffer with Anxiety and feel they cannot visit a counsellor in person. This service can be just as therapeutic as face to face in a room, it is a different way of working, however is no less than being in my room.
I provide a therapeutic space in which there is opportunity for anyone of any age to play, draw, use creative materials and express themselves in a safe and controlled way. With or without words. I often use sandtray therapy as a non-talking way to help and explore an issue.
Our Well being, which includes emotional, psychological and physical is the most valuable gift we can give ourselves. To be able to communicate our thoughts, wishes, hopes and dreams with another person is the most precious gift we can share. I can help you learn how to communicate with other people in this way. I can help you learn about yourself and who you really are.
The room I use is located in a discreet position within Central Wakefield and easy to get to.
I am registered with the Long Boat Home as a Veterans therapist offering services to ex- servicemen and their families. I am also partnering a local therapy service for victims of sexual abuse, both Adult and Child.
I can work with short term issues and longer term issues such as Eating Disorders, Personality Difficulties and Mental Health disorders.
Training, qualifications & experience
After leaving school and studying for a short while I joined the Army as an Instrument technician. After four years I married and left to raise my family. I divorced many years ago and this was difficult. I raised my now adult children as a single parent for approximately 15 years and managed my studies whilst being a full time mum. I also ran a Karate club and was a qualified FA football coach whilst my sons were growing up. I know how hard these times can be.
I returned to study as a mature student and went from A levels onto a Psychology degree BSc, with honours. After this I studied a 3 year course and a Post Graduate Dip in Psychotherapy studying both Child, Young person and Adult course content before qualifying as a Therapeutic Counsellor
I am a registered member of BACP (accredited) and adhere to their codes of ethical and professional practice.
I am currently continuing my study to masters level and my focus is on how young people are using social media and the internet and how this is affecting the development of their brains and their relationships with other people.
I have worked with children and young people from 3-19 and in two charities within the West Yorkshire area and schools helping children with many different issues.
I have also worked with Adults in various settings with West Yorkshire.
