About me

Counselling is essentially the opportunity to speak your thoughts out loud in a safe place where you won’t be judged.  The process of hearing those thoughts can help to give you a sense of release and find clarity, understanding and the ability to find your own solutions.

Counselling isn’t about me offering advice on a situation; it’s about me enabling you to find your own way of dealing with it and so building on your ability to manage other situations that arise in your life.

I work predominantly in a Person Centred way which means that we talk about whatever you bring into the room.  This means that sometimes we’ll continue where we left off in the last session and other times you’ll want to talk about something that’s come up in the week.  This may sound a random way of working but it’s about what’s on your mind at that moment and clients often find that although they’re talking about something that feels unrelated, the previous sessions have perhaps allowed new thoughts to come through or that there have been changes in their lives that have created more pressing concerns.

Sometimes people are unsure if counselling is for them or want to ensure that they’re working with the right person.  Anyone who is unsure whether this is the right thing for them is very welcome to book a 30 minute appointment which is free of charge with no obligation to continue.  If you’d like to find out more about how I work and how I can help you, you’re very welcome to book a shorter appointment to find out more. Alternatively, we can have a chat on the phone or via Skype if you don’t want to come along in person.  Whatever works for you, that’s fine.

I have experience of working in a number of areas including:

  • Stress

  • Anxiety - including Generalized Anxiety Disorder

  • Fertility problems - when cleared medically and it remains unexplained or dealing with coming to terms with infertility

  • Fears and phobias - both general and pregnancy/childbirth related

  • Birth trauma/birth reflection - if you want to talk through your birth experience - for whatever reason or would like to work through how you feel about your birth experience

  • Anti/Post-natal depression

  • Depression

  • Bereavement

  • Relationship problems

  • Work stress

and many other areas that can be effectively helped when you're ready to work through them.

If you’ve ever felt at odds with yourself or would like to learn how to use your inner resources to help you manage situations in your life, I offer WSN Counselling and Coaching.  The concept of this type of counselling is based on the theory that we’re all made up of 3 main personality types; Warriors, Settlers and Nomads.  Sometimes these ‘parts’ are in conflict with each other or there are times when we’d like to utilize those parts to help us to deal with a variety of situations in our lives.  Understanding those elements of your personality can help you to understand why you feel the way that you do, resolve inner conflicts and give you a useful tool to deal with situations in the future.

With a clinical background of working within the NHS for 27 years, I also have a deep understanding of stress, anxiety and emotional issues experienced by Health Care Professionals and the moral and ethical guidance associated with it.  If you’d like to talk through your feelings with someone who has personal experience of the pressures related to working in healthcare, please give me a call.

For a fast and effective way of changing how you feel, I offer BWRT®’ which stands for ‘BrainWorking Recursive Therapy®’, a model of psychology and psychotherapy created by UK professional therapist, Terence Watts, MCGI. It’s a totally confidential method that doesn’t require you to reveal your private information or personal secrets to your therapist, and is carried out in a completely conscious state. It doesn’t use hypnosis or any mystical concepts – it’s completely logical, practical and down-to-earth, and only needs you to know what you want to change in your life for it be completely successful. Only Certified Practitioners have been trained to deliver BWRT® and all have to adhere to a strict ethical code. Find out more at
