I offer outdoor counselling through Walk and Talk North East, this is not like traditional counselling sat opposite a counsellor or therapist. In Walk and Talk the counsellor is walking alongside you in the great outdoors. Sessions are planned with you in mind and set at your pace with routes through some of the most beautiful natural environments the area has to offer.
Exercising whilst having counselling can allow some people to be more spontaneous and thoughtful, this can help people engage with the counselling and they may find opening up easier.
Research has shown that exercising in green spaces has the benefit of helping increase a persons self esteem and their mood.
Many people have described themselves as feeling ‘stuck’ in their lives; the literal act of walking whilst talking things through can help them begin to frame things differently and become unstuck.
I actively enjoy spending time outdoors and find being close to nature very grounding, its this that lead me to open Walk and Talk North East.
Sessions are based in South Shields, however sessions can be held elsewhere by prior agreement. The routes that we take are personalised to you, some can incorporate benches along the way for a slower more relaxed walk or we can tackle more difficult terrain; all dependent on what it is you are after.
I offer short and long term counselling, however I also offer brief one or two sessions if you just need to talk something through.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a BSc in Psychology and a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and I am a registered member of the BACP.
I have counselled in a range of settings such as GPs surgeries, Counselling Services and Women's Centres. Helping people work through a variety of issues, such as relationship difficulties, work stress, depression, anxiety, childhood trauma.
I work in an integrated way being led by you the client, using Transactional Analysis as my main model.
I strongly believe that exercise benefits not only our physical but also our mental health; helping make the connection between our mind and body.

As I work outdoors this enables me to keep my costs lower, sessions are charged at £30 for the initial session then £25 each session afterwards.
