Profile

Unfortunately, life presents us with difficulties and usually we are able to cope well on our own with these situations. There are occasions, when for whatever reason, we need help from someone else, usually a friend/colleague or family member. Sometimes, however, you might find you have no one to turn to or talking to a friend or loved one seems too difficult, painful or just too complicated. Counselling offers a safe and confidential place to share your thoughts and feelings.

I offer a safe, confidential and non judgmental space where you can share your thoughts and feelings so that you are able to move on in your life, feeling you have been listened to and understood, making the best decisions and choices for yourself.

Every person is unique therefore I hope to work in a way that is most beneficial and comfortable for you. I work in a person centred way, integrating various techniques. Being a person centred counsellor means I believe people have an inner, natural, intuitive knowledge about themselves and given a safe, non judgmental, understanding relationship with a counsellor they can be helped to understand themselves more fully and be helped to make more healthy choices and decisions. I hope to be able to offer a genuine relationship with my clients so that they can move forward in their lives in a more accepting, integrated and authentic relationship with themselves and so with others.

I offer both long term and short term counselling. Length of time in counselling can vary from a one off session to months of work. The length of time very much depends on you and how you feel you are progressing. Initially we would have an 'assessment session' whereby you would decide if I am the right counsellor for you. In life we feel a connection with some people better than others and a counselling relationship is no different. I would also assess whether I was the most appropriately qualified person to help you with your concerns.

I am an accredited counsellor with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and have substantial experience working in a variety of settings, working with both adults and young people. As a member of BACP I respect and practice within its ethical framework.

Reiki is one of the words used in in the world today to describe 'energy'. Reiki is the Japanese word for 'universal energy'. I practice a natural form of healing from the Usui tradition. Other words used to describe this energy are 'prana' and 'qi'. Everything is made up of energy. Every person has an energy field; energy runs through, in and around our bodies. I do not describe myself as a 'healer' because Reiki energy is channeled through me not from me. I believe that people heal themselves and all I can do is offer you some help on your journey.

When all our needs are met, our energy flows freely, enabling us to fulfill our potential. Unfortunately life circumstances often mean that our physical and emotional needs are unmet and we have to endure situations that cause blocks in this energy flow. Blocks can be caused by a multitude of situations including physical and emotional trauma or the way we learn to make relationships with others through our attachment to our carers in infancy. Various behavioural issues including self- harm, eating disorders, addictions, or mental health concerns such as depression, anger management difficulties and anxiety may be the result of overwhelming emotions. However, human beings are dynamic and given the opportunity and right environment, they have the ability to change and make healthy choices. E-motions (energy in motion), when acknowledged, expressed, listened to and understood, will help us discover solutions to our difficulties.

Reiki can help with this process by re- energising and/ or clearing any blocks in our energy system to help our energy to flow, helping us to live more healthy and authentic lives. Reiki has been shown to have beneficial effects on the immune system and enhances the body's ability to heal; it works in harmony with conventional medical treatments. Reiki can be used as a method of relaxation and helps us to become more in tune with ourselves and our bodies.

Reiki is a tool for self care, self development and spiritual growth. We can benefit from receiving Reiki from another person and we can also benefit from regularly giving ourselves Reiki to improve or maintain our physical and spiritual health. I offer Reiki attunements. After a Reiki level one attunement a person is able to give themselves and their friends/family Reiki. After a Reiki level two attunement a person can offer Reiki to the public. Reiki Master /Teacher attunement means a person has the ability to attune Reiki practitioners into Reiki Master/Teachers.

I offer individual Reiki sessions and also offer Reiki in conjunction with counselling. Personal experience of receiving counselling over a number of years as well as receiving and teaching Reiki has shown me how the two work very well together.
Reiki and counselling both offer a safe, non judgmental, accepting place in which to heal and develop in our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual lives.
