I can offer you a safe and confidential space where we can explore together the difficulties you are facing at this time. I am an accredited, registered and experienced counsellor, based in Central York.
Sometimes life can seem confusing, overwhelming or painful, leaving you feeling anxious, stressed or depressed. My aim is to listen to you compassionately and respectfully, and to try to understand why you feel this way just now. I want to help you regain a balanced perspective on your situation. I will listen and support you as you begin to make any changes in your life.
Over the past 10 years I have worked in various settings: as a counsellor with the NHS in GP surgeries in York and Selby; in a school setting; at The Tuke Centre in York and at the Harrogate Women's Counselling Service. I have also been involved with counselling research through York University.
How counselling can help
My training as a humanistic counsellor, means that I see each person as a unique individual, with differing needs, and I work accordingly. Everyone's circumstances are different, but it is often the feelings of being sad, confused, anxious, depressed, or under stress, that make us want to seek out help.
Counselling can help to build a greater acceptance, understanding and trust in yourself. It can also help you take a look at your present circumstances and why you are struggling, and see if anything needs to change. It is also valuable in considering relationship difficulties.
What to expect in your first session
It is important that you are comfortable working with me, and so in the first session I will give you some information about counselling and answer any of your questions, and you can let me know why you have come for counselling at this time. You can then decide whether you would like to continue, and we will review this again after 4-6 sessions. I can either work on a short or longer term basis.
