Caroline Thomson MBACP Registered Counsellor
I have been involved in mental health for over ten years working with adults and young people. The areas that I specialise in are abuse, trauma and Identity issues. In addition to this I have worked with clients with depression, anxiety, low-self-esteem, confidence issues, relationship difficulties, loss & bereavement and self-harm. I have worked within counselling agencies including Rape Crisis Counselling, Service Six (Therapeutic support for adolescents) and the Women's Centre (supporting health & wellbeing of women). I am a registered member of the BACP & abide by their ethical Framework for Good Practice and currently working in Private practice. I find counselling to be a privilege to be able to connect with so many different and unique human beings and I thoroughly enjoy what I do.
There can be many reasons to enter into counselling and the needs are different for every individual I have worked with. I believe that it is the quality of the relationship between counsellor and client that is vital in bringing any therapeutic change and personal growth. As a person centred counsellor, It is based on the principle that the client knows what is best for them, that within the right conditions within counselling a gradual inner confidence takes place through deep reflection of ones own self and to be connected again with your true being. I aim in encouraging clients to feel as comfortable as possible within a safe space, to explore concerns, hopes and fears and to express thoughts and feelings for healing to take place. The therapeutic process seeks to promote a growing sense of self awareness, authenticity, to become empowered, understanding of experiences and motivated towards a happier more fulfilling life.
