Clinical Experience and Therapeutic Approach
I have over 10 years experience working as a psychologist. I have worked in a variety of settings including primary care (City & Hackney NHS), secondary care (Community Mental Health Team, Maudsley & South London NHS), chronic pain (National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, London), perinatal mental health (University College Hospitals London, NHS) and within a charity providing support to women and children affected by domestic violence. I now work purely in private practice.
I have particular interests in working within women’s health, chronic pain and trauma. Such issues may include problems with pregnancy (such as postnatal depression, anxiety, trauma, miscarriage and loss) and health conditions such as endometriosis, cancer and ME/CFS. I am also experienced in helping people who are struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD): this can be the result of a single event (such as a car accident) or following prolonged exposure to trauma which is often interpersonal in nature (such as that seen in childhood abuse and/or domestic violence). However, I have experience helping people with a wide range of difficulties including depression, bipolar, anxiety and panic, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), insomnia, health anxiety, grief and loss, self-harm, relationship difficulties. My door is open to anyone regardless of their gender or the nature of their difficulties, so please get in touch even if your problem is not listed above.
I am an integrative practitioner, which means I am trained in a number of different therapeutic approaches. I work predominantly using CBT within a framework of humanistic principles (which values respect for the client’s world-view and an importance on the therapeutic relationship), however I am very much guided by the individual client’s needs and preferences and the problems they bring. I am also interested in incorporating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness and Compassion Focused Therapy in my work, where appropriate.
