Profile
I have been working as a Counsellor/Psychological Therapist for over 10 years both privately, for a charity and for the NHS which has given me a very wide range of experience to bring to my practice.
Sometimes there are periods in our lives when everything gets on top of us - it all feels too much to deal with and we struggle to cope with every day life; we may feel depressed and anxious with low-self-esteem. It may be something unexpected which catches us at a time when we are pre-occupied with other concerns, such as a bereavement at the same time as a relationship is breaking down. It could be a positive change that we choose which we need to feel confident of making; an opportunity for us to grow. Or it could be a difficult event possibly forced upon us like redundancy for example. In a counselling space it is possible to explore this safely to try and see things differently and gain a new perspective. This allows us to respond in new ways which are more helpful to us.
I try to work creatively with the concerns which are current, and also to look at these issues within the context of the whole of our life. How we are now, how we deal with things now is linked to the ways we learned to cope in the past. This involves both listening to you with care and respect, and when appropriate, questioning and exploring your story with you. This process of increasing self-awareness allows you to tap into your own inner resources and the tools you need to make changes in your life.
Here are just a few comments which clients made on ending their sessions with me:-
"I began counselling with Caroline when my life was at its lowest ebb - not even sure that I wanted a life. With infinite patience Caroline encouraged me to talk and express my feelings some of which had been bottled up for a long time. The relief of being able to do so knowing that it was in complete confidence and I was not being judged was enormous. Gradually I regained my self esteem and self confidence and was able to move forward in my life. I shall be eternally grateful to Caroline for giving me the opportunity to do this." [Client from Heysham]
"........and it made me realise what an enormous journey you took me on. I will be forever grateful and in your debt for I now feel so much more a whole person, and without your help this would never have happened." [Client from South Cumbria]
"I always thought that counselling was not for me. However, when my husband died, I soon realised how much I was in need of professional help to cope witht the devastating grief which affected me both physically and emotionally. By good fortune I was put in touch with Caroline. Her counselling enabled me to talk about my grief frankly and in confidence, knowing that she was sympathetic and understood how I felt. She was able to assure me that my feelings were normal, and she really helped me to come to terms with my loss. As a result I have gained in strength and have the courage to move forward. For anyone experiencing a life crisis that seems so hard to deal with, I would highly recommend Caroline as a Counsellor. She has a natural warmth that will put you at your ease, then she will listen carefully, sympathetically and non-judgementally, offering guidance, encouragement and support to help you through - invaluable". [Client from Carnforth]
"Who needs counselling? I did. I thought I was letting myself down by succumbing to the suggestions that counselling would help me cope with the trauma and stress of my husband being diagnosed with the big 'C'. What a revelation - rather than me being stressed, I was able to transfer these feelings to a friendly, helpful, empathetic counsellor called Caroline. She was so kind and thoughful in assisting me to cope with the problems of his illness and in coming to terms with his death. I thinks she's great." [Client near Lancaster]
