Caroline Black (Psychodynamic Psychotherapist) BPC (Dip Psych)
At some stage in each of our lives, we will face difficult personal issues and feelings. Sometimes we are unable to process and deal with these on our own. I offer individuals a safe, confidential space in my small private practice where they can be truly heard. Psychotherapy with me will offer you the chance to explore in depth, your thoughts and feelings relating to events in your life, both past and present. It can help you make changes or discover appropriate ways of managing.
My training and experience has equipped me to work with a range of conditions including depression and anxiety as well as more enduring and complex psychological and mental health conditions such as eating disorders, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
How I Work
My approach to therapy is based on psychodynamic principles and practices; this means I focus on the unconscious meaning of your difficulties and how they are affecting your life and relationships. Sometimes referred to as 'the talking cure', it provides an opportunity to reflect and to understand long standing and deep rooted unhelpful actions, thoughts and behaviour. My role as a psychodynamic psychotherapist is to work with you in developing a deeper understanding of yourself. It is not to provide you with quick fixes or to provide you with generic answers to your problems, I will work with you to help you find the answers within yourself.
What To Expect
I will meet with you for an initial consultation to enable us to discuss the nature of your difficulties and to decide if psychodynamic psychotherapy is the most appropriate intervention for you. This will also give you the opportunity to ask questions about the therapeutic process. It may be necessary for us to meet a few times before a decision is reached about embarking on therapy. If we agree it would be beneficial for us to work together we will schedule a 50 minute session each week for us to meet at my practice. Through an ongoing commitment to regular weekly sessions, there is the possibility for lasting change.
