Profile

I am Diploma  trained as a counsellor using the Person Centered Approach and primarily work with individuals to offer a confidential and therapeutic place to explore issues or situations that are causing distress. I can offer both short term and longer term work from premises right in the heart of Leicester City.

I am an accredited member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I adhere to their ethical guidelines, receive regular supervision and have appropriate insurance cover.

I have experience of working with a diverse client group, varying in age, cultural background and having many different reasons for coming to counselling.

In addition to general work I have a particular focus on working within the British Deaf Community and I work bi-lingually in British Sign Language if that is your choice.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

I trained at the University of Salford as a Person centered counsellor and have also studied with Temenos in Sheffield to gain a Diploma as a supervisor

Qualifications:
  Advanced Diploma in Counselling
  Diploma in supervision
  BACP accredited therapist

  MRSLI (registered with NRCPD)

I have worked within the British Deaf Community for 40 years and been a qualified BSL/English interpreter since 1986 with wide experience of interpreting in the mental health field and in Court and the legal system.

Since my qualification as a counsellor I have worked with BSL using deaf clients, deafblind clients and those who have become deafened. I have worked both in private practice and for a university counselling service and also within the NHS.

I have experience of working with family members of those with hearing loss especially if the deafness is a sudden acquired loss.

The focus of my working experience has been led by the impact of disability within my family because of this I have real experience of living with someone profoundly deaf and also with learning disability. As a parent of a young person with a genetic health condition also I feel I have a strong empathic response to those in families affected by disability or difference.
