Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

When I work

I offer daytime and evening appointments Mondays and Tuesdays.

Further information

I have worked extensively in numerous major disasters, including New York immediately post 9/11, Paddington rail crash, 7/7 London bombings, Tottenham riots and many more as well as with individuals dealing with the aftermath of such experiences as sexual abuse, road accidents or other life threatening experiences.

Trauma Debriefing

A process to identify and diffuse any excessive feelings, as a result of being in attendance or affected by an incident or disaster, enabling the individual or organisation to regain normal functioning as quickly as possible.

Research shows that debriefing individuals and teams after a traumatic event can help to reduce the likelihood of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Anyone of us maybe called upon to provide assistance to people involved in traumatic incidents of varying degrees of severity, become a witness to such events or encounter similar trauma in our own personal lives.

Trauma Therapy

A safe space for one to externalise thoughts, feelings, fears and emotions about the impact of that traumatic experience; to grieve for what has been lost; to heal from the psychological impact of the event and to enhance one's own internal resilience and resources.

EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing - is a unique and effective method used for clients who have symptoms of trauma and is recommended by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) as the most effective treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Driving Rehabilitation Programme

This unique and bespoke driving rehabilitation programme is tailored made for each individual and has been truly life changing for previous clients. The service, which has proven to be a valuable resource to the medical and legal profession for personal injury cases, is conducted by two professionals working jointly with the client. Each professional has an expertise in their own field of psychotherapy and driver training.

We provide expert training and practical coaching integrated with psychological support for individuals who have developed a fear of driving or being driven as a result of a motor vehicle collision, as well as, for individuals who have developed a driving phobia or anxiety which is non-accident related.

With both professionals working jointly with the client, this dual approach of tackling the paralysing fear that people experience in such circumstances, allows the client to gain an understanding of their fear/phobia, work through the psychological effects of their experience and undertake a driving rehabilitation programme in a motor vehicle, in a live environment, with accompanied practical support. This, ultimately, enables the individual to be free of their driving fears as well as gaining enhanced driving skills, road awareness and driver knowledge. (Price on Application)

Clinical Supervision

Supervision provides a confidential, supportive and reflective space for counsellors and psychotherapists in which to develop and enhance one's professional and personal skills and to explore the impact of client work on oneself.
