About me

Working in the field of Psychology since 2007, I have clinical experience within the NHS, private sector and non-profit sector. During this time I have worked with adult clients experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties, with varying complexities in both inpatient and community settings. These experiences have given me the opportunity to work with mental health difficulties such as:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety Disorders including; Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Social Anxiety & Panic Disorder
  • Psychosis
  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Personality Disorders
  • Chronic Pain
  • Self-esteem problems
  • Anger problems

Most recently I have been working in a specialist trauma service providing assessments and trauma-focused CBT for military veterans with Complex PTSD, as well as facilitating psycho-educational groups. Within this setting I have developed experience of supervising trainee Counselling and Clinical Psychologists from the University of Surrey. During this time I also completed New Supervisors Training provided by the University of Surrey which is approved by the BPS.

Whilst working with veterans, I have developed an interest in mindfulness and compassion focused therapy. Mindfulness is particularly useful to help bring ones attention to the here and now so that we are not focused on the past or worrying about the future. I use compassion focused therapy in my work with those who experience low self-esteem, are self-critical and struggle to self-soothe. In my experience it is also an effective therapy for those who have experienced guilt and shame based traumas.

Throughout my work I have gained experience of conducting psychological assessments using interviews and psychometric tests. I use my assessments to formulate client’s difficulties and devise appropriate treatment plans. As a Counselling Psychologist I am trained in several theoretical approaches including, Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic. My favoured theoretical approach is CBT, however I will integrate theoretical approaches when it best meets my client’s needs. The CBT approach mostly focuses on thoughts and behaviour as a way of changing our feelings and our physiological experiences.

When working with my clients I feel it is important to work together collaboratively so that we can come to a shared understanding of the difficulties they are facing. Working collaboratively, I aim to empower my clients with understanding and coping strategies to live a more functional life.
