About me
I am a fully qualified UKCP registered Gestalt psychotherapist. My practice based in Acton, West London is within easy reach of Ealing, Chiswick, Shepherd's Bush, Hammersmith, Notting Hill and Central London.
I offer both individual and group therapy working in pleasant surroundings in Acton, providing a space in which to work comfortably and confidentially. I also offer individual and group supervision working with you to support your client work.
As a Gestalt psychotherapist I work within a Humanistic framework offering a relational therapy. This holistic form of therapy focuses on you as a total person. As a completely unique individual you are regarded as a totality of mind, body, emotions and spirit.
I believe that everyone has the capability within them to face their difficulties, however at times people become stuck in fixed patterns and need some assistance to see the situation more clearly, explore their part in it and experiment with finding new and more creative ways of being. We will work together in the here and now situation, rather than the there and then or what 'should' have been, and explore how these patterns are still active and affecting life in the present. Our priority in this therapeutic relationship is to heighten your self-awareness enabling you to have a wider range of choices.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have worked as a counsellor and psychotherapist since 2001, studying for an MSc in Gestalt Psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute in Ealing, London and qualifying in June 2008. During this time I have worked with a diverse group of people from differing ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations and facing a wide variety of challenges such as relationship difficulties; childhood trauma and neglect; physical, sexual and emotional abuse; stress and anxiety; adjusting to life stage changes; panic attacks; bereavement and depression.
I believe a therapeutic relationship is one in which you can explore and experiment and that this can only be done effectively and honestly in a trusted and safe environment. This is the space in which we would work together.
As a supervisor my aim is to provide a supportive, insightful and non-judgemental environment in which trainee and qualified therapists can explore their work and leave the supervision session with increased clarity about how to move forward.
Prior to training as a psychotherapist I worked in the business world for over 20 years and have experience in retail, marketing, publishing, television, advertising, consultancy and HR. This knowledge helps me in my work as a therapist and supervisor in many ways, such as understanding the stresses relating to professional life, working relationship dynamics and the pressures of a commercial environment. At different stages of my life I have lived and worked abroad.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
