About me

I have over 25 years experience in the field of counselling and psychotherapy working with individuals who have experienced PTSD, BPD, trauma, depression, child neglect, sexual abuse, anxiety and many more issues and difficulties.  I work predominantly within the psychodynamic model of psychotherapy. This type of therapy focuses on revealing the unconscious impact that trauma and other difficulties have had and continue to have on our lives. It helps us to understand the root causes of difficult emotions, behaviours, feelings, bringing them into the conscious mind where they can be processed and understood.  This helps to bring about healing and the resolution of destructive patterns of behaviours and thinking.

Our psyche can bury into our unconscious painful feelings and memories which are to difficult for the conscious mind to process. As a result of the burying of these painful memories and experiences individuals can sometimes behave in ways which they do not understand. Psychodynamic psychotherapy helps to understand these behaviours and make significant changes in these behaviours.

Becoming a Psychotherapist was something that I had a great interest in from a very, very early age. I wanted to listen to people, help them understand the reasons for their difficulties and ultimately give them hope that their lives and experiences going forward could change.

Becoming a Psychotherapist was something that I had a great interest in from a very, very early age. I wanted to listen to people, help them understand the reasons for their difficulties and ultimately give them hope that their lives and experiences going forward could change.

Individuals who are genuinely interested in exploring themselves and are looking for self knowledge as to why they behave the way they do as well as symptom relief will benefit most from this type of therapy.

This type of therapy will also be of benefit to individuals who seem to “have it all” but still feel “empty” or troubled inside.

I have provided psychotherapy for individuals who have experienced deep trauma from incidents which have been documented in the media and National News Outlets. My experience is extensive and I intend to help you with the difficulties or issues that you are experiencing.

Training, qualifications & experience

Since 1998 I have completed various training courses in Counselling, culminating in qualifying with a Master of Science degree in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from Birkbeck College, University of London.

I began my clinical work, pre and post qualification at the Complex Care Clinic of St Ann's Hospital part of the Haringey, Enfield and Barnet NHS Trust in London. I provided psychodynamic therapy for individuals that had very complex psychological/emotional/mental health problems such as borderline personality disorder, paranoid schizoid disorders, depression, anxiety and many more. Most of the therapy that I provided was long term, face to face.  I do provide online therapy by Skype when it is very difficult to attend in person face to face sessions.

I provide psychotherapy from my private practice at Lily House, before then I provided treatment at the The Rectory Lane Psychotherapy Clinic at North Essex Partnership, NHS Foundation Trust for individuals who suffered with complex longstanding psychological and emotional issues.

I have also provided and still provide short term face to face counselling to individuals who as a result of traumatic life events in adulthood, have felt they have been unable to cope with or make sense of life anymore. Traumatic life events such as a death in the family, divorce, redundancy, domestic violence and other tragic life events.

I worked as a counsellor at the Enfield Women's Centre providing counselling to women that had experienced domestic violence, childhood sexual abuse, rape, depression, anxiety, low self esteem and a general inability to cope with life.

I have also worked with women who have undergone abortions or termination of pregnancies and are having difficulty with the decision they made or the decision they were pressured into.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The assessment session is not a therapy session, it is the consultation session where I will find out about you, your experiences from early childhood to adulthood, your family setup, your work (if you do work) and what brings you to seek therapy. By doing this I will try to identify or understand the psychological or personal issues and problems that you are experiencing.

Towards the end of the assessment session we will decide if you will start weekly therapy with me as your therapist under the psychodynamic model. Or if you feel that you are not yet ready for therapy or the psychodynamic model is not tor you.

Therapy sessions are client led, unlike the assessment session where I ask questions and am given answers by you. In the therapy session whatever you as the client brings to the therapy session is what will be explored. Sessions take place at least once a week at the same time and on the same day of the week.
