Billie Andrews MA Couns. MBACP (Accredited)
Welcome to my counselling page; I realise it can be a daunting step starting your search for a therapist and a minefield trying to make sure you pick the right person.
I hold an MA in Counselling and I am an accredited member of the BACP based in Manchester. I adhere to the BACP ethical framework and I have comprehensive insurance to practice counselling with private clients. I adopt an integrative approach to therapy; which means I can tailor my approach to best meet the needs of clients.
There are many reasons why people feel they need to access counselling; sometimes it can be related to a major life event but there are also times when we feel like we need some extra support without knowing why; sometimes it can be that we just need an outside perspective to help us process things. I have worked with individuals to support them with a vast range of life events such as relationship issues, separation and divorce, bereavement, career changes, family issues, depression, anxiety and other generalised health concerns, along with many more issues. I also offer specialist counselling in abuse and addiction.
Trauma Focused Work
I specialise in working with individuals who have been affected by trauma; particularly those who have experienced childhood sexual abuse or rape. I work with both men and women and recognise that everybody's experience is unique. I have experience of counselling at Rape Crisis and am currently employed as a therapist at Survivors Manchester.
I work with clients to support them in gaining an insight into their traumatic experiences and to develop an understanding of how the legacy of abuse have impacts on their ability to function in relationships and how they view their self-identity.
Drug & Alcohol Misuse
I have a number of years experience of working in drug & alcohol services, supporting clients to gain control over their addiction or dependency and to be able to effectively live their life.
I understand there are many complex reasons that drive people to use drugs or alcohol problematically and often this can build up over time; having an impact on both the individual and those around them. I work with clients to support them gain an insight into their behaviours and to empower them to work towards their goals; be this total abstinence or a reduction in use.
Family & Carers
Both my work in trauma and substance misuse has given me a unique understanding into the impact these issues have on family and friends. I am also able to support individuals to understand their family member or friend's behaviour and come to terms with the impact this has had on their relationship.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
EMDR is a psychotherapy used in the treatment of psychological problems such as depression, anxiety, bereavement and loss, addictions and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It has been recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence ( NICE) as one of two treatments for PTSD but it's use is more widely used than this. EMDR focuses on any past negative experience which may be hindering the client's current life. By re-processing these it is possible to change them from negative to positive and allow the client to live a more positive and fulfilled life.

Making that initial call to a therapist is a big step and can cause a lot of anxiety and apprehension. You can contact me either by text or call or simply click the link and leave a message. I will return your call and we can talk through what you want to gain from counselling and it gives you an opportunity to see if I'm the right fit for you.
I will offer you an initial 30 minute session that will be free of charge so we can meet and discuss if and how we will work together. If your comfortable with me, we will book a further session and begin our work together. Generally I recommend clients attend weekly but recognise this may not always be feasible so can work flexibly to meet your needs.
