About me

About Myself and my Work.

My full name is Marie-Noel Buckley however I am known as Billie Buckley. I am a fully qualified and experienced Psychodynamic Counsellor as well as a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist. I am also a trained couples therapist. I have been seeing both individuals and couples for over 20 years, addressing both short term and long term  issues/problems. My private practice is in my Chelsea home which includes my office and consulting room which is in a comfortable setting providing confidentiality and safety.

I am able to offer a wide range of professional support therapies, all starting with an initial assessment consultation which is used to decide the appropriate course of action, whether it be to continue a course of therapy with myself or to refer you to another specialised therapist. I am able to offer you counselling in a number of difficulties for short or long-term work, including:-

Relationship Issues; Anxiety and Generalised Anxiety Disorder; Depression; Post-natal Depression; Stress; Trauma; Lack of self-esteem; Loss of Sense of Identity and Confusion, Affairs and Betrayal; Redundancy; Child related issues; Ageing and Retirement; Easting Disorders; Personality Disorders; Narcissism;  Issues regarding Sexuality; Adapting to living in London; Suicidal Ideation; Bereavement.

Please do check my websites www.psychotherapistchelsea.co.uk or www.counsellingchelsea.co.uk for further information, details and other areas I specialise in, as well as for some insight into the therapy process itself.

A brief Description of myself and my approach.

I speak both French and Italian and I lived in Europe before settling permanently in London. I continue to travel world-wide and thus bring a broad and world-wide experience to my work. I respect, welcome and, indeed, value each person's diversity and uniqueness and thus I can respond individually to that person's own particular circumstances. My experience and different skill sets enable me to be less rigid and to be flexible when appropriate and thus to understand and help people, young or older, who may only require short term therapy, coming once a fortnight or indeed only once a month.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained as a Transpersonal psychologist for 2 years before I embarked on a 3 years training as a Psychodynamic Counsellor (WPF). This was followed by an extensive and rigorous Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy training over 4 years (FPC). During that period I did my Psychiatric Placement at the Charing Cross Hospital where I was an Honorary Psychotherapist working for the NHS. After qualifying I also completed a year of clinical Hypnotherapy training (College of Hypnotherapy) as well as a year's course of CBT skills (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). I continued to train systemically to enable me to see couples.  I am a member of FPC (Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling) as well as being registered with UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy and Counselling) and with BPC (The British Psychoanalytic Council).

Details and content of the First Encounter for Individuals.

There is usually an initial session for approximately an hour and a half which gives the individual the opportunity to find out if he or she feels comfortable in the room with me as well as to ask me questions with regard to the therapy process. This consultation affords me the opportunity to ask a lot of questions in order to identify the main issues that have brought that person to seek help; any setbacks, as well as to take down details of background and history. At the close of the session a decision can be made as how to proceed. I see individuals for once a week work as well as up to three times a week. It may be possible to agree a specific amount of sessions for short-term work or one may have a more open-ended approach which enables both of us to review the work as the therapy progresses before deciding an end date.

Details of the First Encounter for Couples.

With regard to couples I prefer to see each individual first for a session on their own before seeing them as a couple together. We then are able to decide whether to do some intensive work initially on a weekly or fortnightly basis which would then be extended to monthly sessions. Some tasks may be set.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BPC
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Fees

Additional information

With regard to FEES I have a sliding scale in order to take into account individual's financial circumstances. I do ask for clarity, honesty and disclosure of financial circumstances if a lower than average fee is being considered. I ask for full payment at the initial assessment consultation session which would normally be approximately double the regular feel agreed upon. Subsequently I would invoice monthly and expect payment by cheque, cash or bank transfer as I do not have credit card facilities.

I do my utmost to be as fair to individual's particular circumstances in order that nobody is excluded from the possibility of therapeutic help.

I am registered with several insurance companies such as Norwich Union for those who have medical insurance that cover therapy, however I am not registered with either BUPA or PPP.

When I work

I am working on line during this Pandemic on Skype - you can find me on billiebuckley52. Send me an email first.

Further information

Further details about myself, my practice and how I work.

I have been seeing patients in my Knightsbridge practice for twenty years and now am established in my Chelsea home/practice. Referrals are from G.Ps. (general practitioners) and psychiatrists in the vicinity although "word of mouth" has also brought numerous people to my private practice which is in a comfortable setting in my home.

I keep abreast of current issues and conditions by regularly attending seminars and workshops as well as conferences on a broad range of subjects. I have a particular interest in issues relating to and as a result of "internet dating" and the broad spectrum of modern communication with all its resultant and attendant conditions.

Please do telephone me on 0207-352-4286 to make an appointment for an initial assessment session. You may get my answering machine/service, but do please leave a message and telephone number and I will return your call as soon as possible.

Confidentiality is assured.

Details of working hours and Duration of Sessions.

I work till 8 o'clock in the evening and will see patients on a Saturday if absolutely necessary and in particular for couples who cannot manage to come to therapy together at any other time.

Sessions after the initial assessment sessions are for 50 minutes, although I do occasionally see patients for double sessions when that is required or indeed because some people travel extensively and are not able to attend sessions on a more regular basis.

Please check my websites https://www.counsellingchelsea.co.uk/ or https://www.psychotherapistchelsea.co.uk/ for location and transport suggestions.
