EMDR (eye movement desensitisation reprocessing)
“EMDR is a powerful psychological treatment method that was developed by a clinical psychologist, Dr Francine Shapiro. A wealth of research has been conducted demonstrating the benefits of EMDR in treating psychological trauma arising from experiences as diverse as war related experiences, childhood abuse or neglect, natural disaster, assault, road traffic accidents and workplace accidents. Recent research also suggests benefits of using EMDR in treating a number of conditions including anxiety disorders, depression and chronic pain. EMDR has been found to be of benefit to children as well as adults.” (EMDR Works) EMDR therapists help clients reprocess their traumatic memories by using a process that involves repeated left-right (bilateral) stimulation of the brain while noticing different aspects of the traumatic memory. The bilateral stimulation is achieved through either rapid eye movement across the field of vision, auditory tones or clicks, or tactile stimulation of alternate sides of the body. It is believed that the bilateral stimulation of EMDR creates biochemical changes in the brain that aid processing of information. This is a proven process that can re-establish a healthy core belief about the self.

Counselling is an opportunity for people to explore problems they may be experiencing or to talk through traumatic or distressing events in their lives. Sharing these with someone else can be a huge relief and counselling can help you to come to terms with your feelings or find solutions to your problems. As a Person-Centred therapist I believe that each individual knows what is best for them and, with support, can work through difficult feelings and experiences, learning more about themselves and how they relate to others in the process.
I offer therapy on a both a short and long term basis. After the initial meeting (usually arranged over the phone or email - at which point I will ask you for a contact number and for a commitment to let me know if change your mind about attending your booked appointment on the day and we will decide together how to progress.
I work with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds and faiths who are coping with a variety of emotional issues such as anger/loss/sadness. I therefore provide individuals and/or couples with the opportunity to reflect upon, and talk about their difficulties in a safe, none-judgmental and confidential environment.
I also recognise that people have busy lives with families and work, therefore I am also happy to meet with you in an evening (I work till 9pm) Monday - Friday and also available during weekends.
