Bev Harcourt - Counselling Chorley

My name is Bev Harcourt and I’m a counsellor based in Chorley with several years of experience in supporting people struggling with depression; anxiety; stress; bereavement; pet bereavement, relationship issues, addiction, eating disorders, self- esteem issues, abuse and life crisis events. I work with adolescents, individuals and couples. Counselling Chorley offers a safe, confidential and professional private counselling service in Chorley.
As well as Counselling Chorley I work as a Bereavement counsellor at Trinity Hospice in Bispham counselling people suffering complicated grief and loss. I provide counselling for people experiencing cancer, brain tumors or those who have undergone treatment for these.
I have comprehensive experience of supporting clients and understand how to address individual needs, I have clients who need to address core issues and/ or life crisis and this generally entails a longer time in therapy. Some clients simply need to address certian issues and prefer a more boundaried, structured approach which can be time limited, which is generally 3- 8 sessions. And occationally, someone simply wishes 1- 2 sessions just to off load and make sence of their present situation. Therapy can offer support to all of these groups. Each client is an individual and I beleive in tailoring my approach to suit the needs and goals of each individual.
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions about the counselling service or me. It may be useful to visit my website: www.counselling-chorley.org.uk
Training, qualifications & experience
I have extensive experience of working around grief and loss issues and have practiced as a bereavement counselor, including pet bereavement, for over 5 years. I have worked closely with people suffering cancer and/ or brain tumors. I work regularly with people suffering from anxiety, depression and stress, relationship issues, self- esteem issues and those who "feel stuck" in life. I have also worked with clients in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. I work with a wide range of client groups including adolescents (aged 11+), adults, older clients, and couples.
However, I feel this does not fully represent the broader spectrum of my client work. The list below gives you more information about my areas counselling experience and the way I approach these issues in the counselling room.
I’m a fully qualified counsellor with a BACP approved and accredited qualification in Counselling. You can find me on the BACP Register.
I trained primarily in the person centred model of counselling but have an integrative approach. This means that I may use other elements from cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) or solution-focused approach where we agree that is appropriate.
Continuous Professional Development (CPD) describes all training and personal development activity I undertake relating to my counselling practice. This includes things like additional specialist training in bereavement and loss, safeguarding and domestic violence, for example.
If you would like to know more about any aspect of my professional credentials please do not hesitate to contact me.

“The Courage to Face Myself”
I came to Counselling Chorley when my self confidence and low self esteem was at a very low point. Bev created a very professional, emphatic, loving and safe environment where I could safely explore myself in depth, discover answers for myself and I finally had the courage to face myself.
I am finally beginning to like what I see and believing in myself; I personally needed the spiritual aspect of the counselling sessions too. I feel I have the ‘crutches’ I need to be a stronger, more confident person and to be able to fulfil my true potential.
Thank you very much Bev!
“I was Unable to Grieve”
Following the death of my mother and three days after her funeral my father suffered a stroke. He went on to have major surgery later that year but in the intervening months I was unable to grieve for my mother as I was so concerned about my father. My problems were further compounded when my husband was made redundant.
Bev’s patience, understanding, excellent listening skills and knowledge ensured that I finished the series of sessions better able to confront the issues which had caused me so much concern. I have become much calmer and I am now able to deal with difficult situations. During my many weekly sessions with Bev and with her help and understanding I have managed to see a way forward.
I have no hesitation in giving this testimonial.
