About me
I am an experienced qualified CBT therapist and integrative counsellor and psychotherapist (MBACP registered), working in private practice for Anxiety and Depression, Trauma, family interventions, children and young people.
I have worked with individuals presenting with anxiety, DBT, General anxiety disorders, depression, stress, OCD, panic attacks and disorders, phobias, trauma, PTSD, childhood abuse, domestic violence, learning disabilities, autism, agraphobia, bereavement, loss, sudden and traumatic death, relationship issues, suicide, addiction, eating disorders, bipolar disorder/ maniac depression and personality disorders amongst others.
I am trained in therapeutic counselling and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) as well as holding an overseas degree. I also received additional specialist training in bereavement & loss, sudden and traumatic death, trauma, coaching and the core concepts in mental health and Mindfulness.
I have for many years provided therapeutic support to children and young people as well as adults and couples. I often work from a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) perspective, incorporating Mindfulness. I offer talking therapy, solution-focus-therapy, DBT, Schema therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, gestalt therapy, exposure therapy, trauma therapy, coaching to children, young people, adults and couples.
I use mindfulness with myself and clients to help them to become more aware of the present moment and in acknowledging feelings and thoughts as they come and go. It’s been accepted as a useful therapy for anxiety and depression for many years, and research suggests it's effective when practising reflection on yourself, switching off your auto pilot in order to discover your real feelings, and this can have an positive influence on our psychological and physical well being.
Training, qualifications & experience
For many years I worked as an agony aunt with couples and individuals who experienced relationship problems as well as children, young people and adults.
I have an overseas BA (Hons), a Diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and a Diploma in therapeutic Counselling, as well as a Certificate in Bereavement Care from Cruse. I am a registered member of the BACP.
I had further training in mental health disorders, sudden and traumatic death, drug and alcohol abuse, trauma, New Focus Therapy and coaching. I abide by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy's (BACP) ethical framework for good counselling and psychotherapy practice.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
