Hello,

The first steps in deciding if you want to see someone and who, can be daunting. It's important that you feel a therapist is going to be a good fit for you so please do get in touch if you'd like to hear more about any aspect of what our sessions will be like, without any obligation to commit.

I hope that you find the following information useful.

Best wishes

Beth

CORONAVIRUS: During this period I am able to offer sessions by Skype in order to facilitate social distancing and self isolation.

I am a specialist in Nature-based psychotherapy, all of my sessions take place within natural settings.

I help clients work through emotional issues, providing an environment where you can feel safe to express yourself without fear of being judged. Psychotherapy sessions provide an opportunity to reflect on past and present experiences and explore how they influence patterns of feeling, thinking and behaviour, allowing you to gain deeper insight into concerns and make more conscious choices, giving greater control over your future.

Your first session will be an opportunity to get a feel for how I work and whether it is right for you. In this session we will explore what brings you to therapy at this time, what you would like to achieve from the sessions - whether a tangible goal or simply more clarity about an issue - and consider how many sessions you will come for (something which we can regularly review).

All sessions are confidential and last for 50 minutes. I provide short and long term therapy.

I practice Nature Allied Psychotherapy and can integrate a range of approaches to suit your individual needs including;

  • Psychodynamic psychotherapy
  • Person Centred psychotherapy
  • Humanistic psychotherapy
  • Body Psychotherapy and Relaxation and Meditative techniques.

Nature Allied Psychotherapy

I have developed Nature Allied Psychotherapy as a modality of ongoing client work, taking place in natural settings - in allegiance with nature.  As well as exploring human relationships, nature allied psychotherapy creates the opportunity to explore your relationship with the natural world.

Psychotherapy helps people to work through emotional challenges by exploring feelings and seeking to understand patterns of behaviour so that they can make more conscious choices in their lives. This is often done by exploring our relationships with those closest to us. Nature is also a significant other in our lives, just like our family and friends – the state of our relationship with nature will affect our sense of well-being just as the type of relationship we have with parents, siblings and colleagues will too.

Nature is able to offer the core conditions of a primary care giver and therefore can be a relational source of positive attachment, being truly a mother; creating the therapeutic potential to support us in developing secure attachments with both people and the natural world.

During our sessions nature becomes part of our therapeutic relationship. Nature based psychotherapy introduces nature as a source of emotional support which can continue long after sessions with the human therapist have finished.

Nature may play a varied role within our sessions, exploration will be led by your sense of connection. For some nature may be a beautiful and engaging setting to meet in, for others nature may be an entity with which a relationship is developed. Nature is used as a medium for emotional exploration and as a metaphor for our inner world in an applied way, offering insights into the dynamics of your human relationships; our senses are engaged and we can work with an embodied experience of the world around us.

During our sessions we can follow where ever your feet take us, whether you want to walk or sit. Or if you’d prefer I can guide the direction we take.

Nature allied psychotherapy sessions take place in SE24 and CR0.

Some things to consider prior to a nature-based session;

  • Woodland/parkland is not an enclosed space, we will come into some form of contact with people and animals (e.g. dogs), please consider whether you are comfortable with this, we will talk through anything you feel may be challenging (e.g. if you have a fear of dogs) and how we deal with privacy
  • Suitable footwear and clothing for the environment and weather
  • Sessions will run whatever the weather except high winds and storms

I have provided professional training to psychotherapists and emotional health professionals on Nature Allied Psychotherapy for over 8 years, and offer courses through the Nature Therapy School.

I have theorised Nature Allied Psychotherapy as an orientation of practice and am currently writing a book, presenting these ideas for psychotherapists, counsellors and allied professionals.

I am a registered member of the BACP and abide by their Code of Ethics and receive regular clinical supervision.

Supervision

I provide supervision to trainees and qualified practitioners.  Sessions take place in parks and woodland.

Supervision is available in SE24 and SE25 (other locations maybe possible by arrangement).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
