As a counsellor I have the training and experience to help you begin to understand your feelings and recognise your potential. Perhaps you have anxiety and feel depressed or low in mood at times; do you find yourself feeling less than confident with low self-esteem; do you have concerns around alcohol, anger issues, or worries in your personal relationships; do you wonder about a loss of meaning and purpose in your life? Collaboratively we can begin to navigate your way back to better times.
My practice is a safe, confidential, therapeutic space away from the frantic noise of everyday life. Here you will be listened to and heard in a warm and facilitating environment that is non-judgemental and respectful. My client group includes adults and adolescents in a face-to-face environment.
I am an Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor, and can offer more than one approach to address your particular issues. My practice is underpinned by a person-centred, humanistic philosophy, which puts you at the centre of the relationship. As a practitioner I can use a Cognitive Behavioural, a Solution-Focused, or a Person-centred approach as the issues are presented.
Person-Centred Therapy (PCT) recognises the person as the expert, and sees the individual as having an inborn tendency towards fulfilling their potential. It understands that sometimes this ability can be blocked often by distorted beliefs and difficult life experiences, such as low self-esteem and sense of value.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) focuses on how thoughts, attitudes and beliefs in our lives can affect our feelings and as a result, our behaviours. The basis of CBT shows us that by thinking in a different way we can change our feelings and, ultimately our behaviour.
A Solution-Focused approach leaves the problem behind and works towards how things should be. This is about discovery and implementation of a strategy based on inherent strengths and what already works.
As an Integrative therapist I bring together these different approaches to better support all aspects of a person’s well-being. I look forward to meeting and talking with you.
Training, qualifications & experience
- Master of Science in Therapeutic Counselling from the University of Greenwich
- Bachelor of Arts in Social Care from the Dublin Institute of Technology
- Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing from the University of Greenwich
- I have Accredited status at the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy
I have worked as a Nurse in the NHS in Hastings and London, and privately in San Francisco. I found that I spent a lot of that time counselling patients and their relatives facing loss and bereavement. Today I work solely as a counsellor providing help and comfort to those with emotional difficulties. I work with adults and young people, individually and in school, face to face, covering a diverse range of concerns. In London I worked in a sexual health clinic at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where issues of anxiety and stress were common as well as more difficult concerns such as HIV diagnosis and sexual assault. I have worked in Sussex Coast College as a Resident Counsellor, dealing with students both adolescent and mature. Today, as well as my private practice, I work at a Grammar School in Ashford, Kent.
As an Integrative Therapist I bring together Person-Centred, Cognitive Behavioural and Solution-Focused practices to better support all aspects of a person’s well-being. I look forward to listening and talking with you.
