Beatrice Dundonald BA Hons, Pg Dip Counselling, MBACP
East Claremont Street
I am an experienced counsellor in the Edinburgh New Town working with individuals and couples. I believe that there are times in life when we may all need a bit of extra help in coping with life, be it to resolve childhood / family issues which have lain dormant for many years, or to help us understand difficult relationships / situations in our present lives. Counselling can shed light on problems that may seem unsurmountable to you and which are causing you huge distress. Seeking professional emotional support can allow you to find the strength to move forwards in life in a better and more fulfilling way.
I work privately from home, and can offer you the opportunity to address the problems that you may need to in a discreet and confidential setting. Please call me in the first instance to chat about how i may be able to support you.
please go to my website www.beatricedundonald.com for a lot more information on how i work, and what therapeutic areas i can help with.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist trained at Edinburgh University to work with individuals. Since then i have undertaken further training courses in 'Relationship Counselling' and 'Family Therapy'. My work with clients suffering from postnatal depression has given me experience in this area as well.
I have recently worked at 'Couples Counselling Lothian', 'PF Counselling Service' and 'Postnatal Depression Services Lothian'.
I work with students from 18 right through the age range of clients. I have worked with many issues, including eating disorders, anxiety and panic attacks, depression, bipolar disorder, childhood issues, sexual and emotional abuse, and all types of relationship problems.

Other areas of counselling I deal with
I have worked extensively alongside couples who are either on the verge of divorcing, or who are going through the process already. This can be a crucial time in determining how the difficult process of separating works, both for the adults involved but also for any children. There is much that can be done at this stage to achieve a "good divorce" rather than a messy or acrimonious one. The emotional toll on everyone can be high, and i believe that support in this process is essential.
I have worked with both women and men affected by the arrival of a new-born child in the family. Sometimes it is hard to understand why life seems so bleak when there is an assumption that they 'should' be feeling happy. There are many reasons why this time can be very demanding on a family, and often on the woman as primary carer of the baby. It is in my opinion extremely helpful to be able to reach out for help with this situation sooner rater than later, and to start enjoying your child and your couple relationship fully.
