About me

Welcome.

I work alongside you, to help you live your life in a more fulfilling way and to make the changes you want for yourself. I offer a free introductory session where we can discuss the way forward.

Anxiety, depression, trauma and addiction are issues that I am particularly experienced in working with. In today's fast-paced world, it is common for individuals to feel anxious, confused or depressed. Sometimes these feelings can lead to further unhealthy behaviours such as addictions or compulsive behaviours.

I am very experienced in helping clients with issues of trauma, abuse and neglect, particularly in childhood. I have a comprehensive understanding of the effect of abuse on an individual, family and society. My sensitive and empathic approach creates a safe environment where clients can feel able to explore their deepest hurts.

I have 20+ years of experience in working with clients with drug, alcohol and gambling issues and I have knowledge of various treatment models including harm reduction and the 12-step philosophy.  I spent many years working in detox units, rehabs and other statutory drug and alcohol services. I worked for Breakeven, a franchise of GamCare, providing counselling to anyone affected by problem gambling, for over a decade.

I work in an anti-oppressive way, honouring you as an individual and recognising any sources of discrimination or oppression you may have faced.

Please feel free to email me and arrange an initial session free of charge and without obligation. We can use this time to meet each other, discuss my way of working and identify areas you might like to explore in therapy.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
