Over 30 years in the NHS and in private practice, I have a wealth of experience in working with people and offer a professional, confidential and ethical service.
There can be all sorts of reasons people look for help. Sometimes there can be something immediate, a crisis, a bereavement, a trauma, a time of change in life. Or there may be longer term difficulties, with for example, depression, anxiety, problems in relationships. It may be a feeling of being stuck, unable to realise their potential, feel fulfilled, that is the spur. Often people will have tried to sort things out themselves , sought the help and support of friends and relatives, and sometimes they may have had professional help too and now feel they want something different.
I work with people who are interested in understanding what may be going on beneath the surface and affecting how we think, feel, act and relate to ourselves and others.
An initial consultation can help clarify what is going on and sometimes a few meetings can be enough in themselves. At other times something more is needed and we would try and see if I can be of help myself or make a recommendation.
The therapy I offer can be short or longer term, once weekly or more frequently.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained as a Clinical Psychologist at The Institute of Psychiatry, University of London qualifying in 1985. And subsequently trained as an Adult Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic, London, qualifying in 1995.
I continue to develop as a therapist through personal and peer supervision, attendance at lectures, courses and conferences and through reading.
My initial employment was as a Clinical Psychologist in a number of settings including a Victorian Asylum, Day Hospital and Community Mental Health Centre. Following my 4 year, full time,in service training at the Tavistock Clinic I have worked part time in the NHS, most recently as a Consultant Adult Psychotherapist alongside my private practice.
I have had the opportunity to work with Adolescents, Adults and Older Adults with a wide range of difficulties offering consultations, individual, couples and group psychotherapy. Supervising trainee and trained Psychotherapists, Counselling and Clinical Psychologists, facilitating an experiential therapy group, offering Reflective Practice to staff teams have also formed a substantial part of my work.
I am registered with The British Psychoanalytic Council and with the Health and Care Professions Council and abide by their Ethical Guidelines.
