I am a counsellor with 15 years experience; I work collaboratively with people to make sense of the difficulties they face and to develop effective strategies for breaking out of unhelpful patterns, so that they can create a happier and healthier life.
The first step to making changes in your life is acknowledging that there is a problem, but it might seem hard to find a way of working through them. Finding a safe place and someone you feel comfortable talking with is crucial. You would be welcome to come along for one session to see how it will feel.
My core training is in humanistic integrative counselling, and subsequently I have trained in bereavement counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness. Drawing on this background and my experience in practice, we can work together to find the most effective approach for you at them moment.
Often this will involve some combination of:
- just talking, and feeling that you are being heard, understood and accepted
- building a sense of self-worth and confidence in your ability to make appropriate changes
- reflecting on the past in order to understand how patterns develop, making you feel stuck or leading to the same problems arising over and over again
- working out strategies for dealing with problems that you are facing right now
It's natural to feel some anxiety about starting this process but it is extremely rewarding. It is intended to be life-changing but we will work together to make sure that you feel safe and valued at every step of the way. Whatever you say will be treated confidentially and responded to without criticism.
If you would like to have a chat on the phone before making an appointment please give me a ring on 07791 159201. If you would like some information before deciding you can also email me on firstname.lastname@example.org to request information on counselling in general or about any of the issues listed below and I will email you back with handouts or answers to specific questions.
