About me

Are you struggling right now? Maybe with panic, fear, general anxiety? Maybe your teenager having difficulties?

I work with adults, children and teenagers. I am an Integrative Psychotherapist with 20 years of experience.  I have lots of experience in working with women with the depression and anxiety.  I also work well with different forms of self-sabotage/ self abandonment ( unhealthy romantic relationships, unhealthy relationship with food, addictions, procrastination, harsh inner critic...) I am passionate about supporting women while they continually transition through life; from puberty to menopause and beyond.

One of my specialities is working with teens and their self esteem issues, self harming, eating habits, anxiety and panic attacks.

I provide therapy and support for parents who have children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.  Children with ADHD, ASD and other special needs can have a great impact on all family.

As the name implies, Integrative Psychotherapy is a unique combination of many styles and techniques drawn from the Humanistic, Existential, Polyvagal and Psychoanalytic therapy approaches. It emphasises the uniqueness of the human being and focuses on creating a safe environment in which an individual may explore childhood experiences and whether/how these affect daily living.

Many of the personal problems faced can arise in the context of our relationships and family background. I offer sessions for parents, children, adolescents and young people with special needs to help work through their difficulties and find more fulfilling ways of relating to each other.

My role involves creating an atmosphere of safety and acceptance. I see the therapy as a journey in which both therapist and client/patient are a team working together towards the same goals. Therefore my role is seen very much as a guide in the individual's journey of self-recognition.

I work intuitively, often drawing from a large 'toolbox' of different skills and trainings, which include:

  • Existential Therapy
  • Client-Centred Counselling
  • Art Therapy
  • Sand Play
  • Visualisations
  • Outdoor therapy/walk and talk
  • Canine assisted therapy

I encourage each individual to recognise their potentials and choices. I therefore offer the client the opportunity for change if this is appropriate.

I am also offering 6 weeks therapy sessions for those considering a formal diagnosis of ASD, ADD or ADHD or post diagnosis.  Please e-mail me for more information on both of these.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified counsellor with PGdip in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Roehampton and BA in Psychology and Sociology from Westminster University. I am also a Roots of Empathy Programme Instructor – providing emotional support and understanding for primary age children (http://www.rootsofempathy.org/ ) and a Family Links Nurturing Programme’s Leader (http://familylinks.org.uk/).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Therapy for Parents

Becoming a mother or a father is a life-changing and profound experience. Having a baby will, inevitably, impact every aspect of your life.

Babies need their parents so fully that you might feel that you have no time for yourself or that you have lost your sense of who you are.   Being a mother or a father can also feel isolating for some parents.

Becoming a parent could bring up, among other things,  difficult feelings about your own experience of being parented, changes to your body, difficulties in your relationship with your partner, sexual changes and concerns, feelings of loss of your own freedom, sleep deprivation and difficulties in making a time or space for yourself.

Sometimes the process of becoming a mother is problematic in itself and you experience postnatal depression, difficulties in bonding with your baby or even, devastatingly, the loss of your baby in miscarriage or still birth.

Therapy is a space where you can take time to talk about how you feel, get support for yourself and express your feelings.

If you are a new mother I am happy for you to bring your baby with you to counselling for the first few months.  This can get tricky once your baby is crawling and whether this is possible at all will depend on your baby’s temperament.  You might be able (and prefer) to leave your baby in safe adult hands and enjoy the chance to have some time to yourself.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You are no longer a new mother and are perhaps experiencing difficulties in your day to day life.  How do you balance your own needs with those of your children, partner, work and friends?  How do you make space for yourself and say ‘no’?   Some mothers find themselves overwhelmed as they struggle to balance mothering with work and/or keeping a home going.  Perhaps you are a single mum and finding it tough.  How do you get support for yourself?

Therapy offers a confidential and quiet place in which to talk, get support, express your feelings and think about what you want and how to achieve it.

Further information

I have experience working with children and teenagers with special needs such ASD, ADHD and Dyslexia. First of all I appreciate that you and your family have the greatest levels of knowledge about your unique situation. A therapy could bring to light your individual abilities and experiences in order to help you create new opportunities.

Every client is special and every circumstance is exceptional! Being born with special needs has its unique set of difficulties. Similarly, acquiring a special need as a result of an accident or illness can have heavy emotional, social and financial strains. Life’s journey holds difficulties, and sometimes the challenges are too great to face alone. I would provide a safe environment to explore and to face these challenges.

We could address these issues:

  • Emotional well being
  • Anger and impulse control
  • Family life
  • Couples, relationships and social connections
  • School and employment barriers
  • Community access and inclusion
  • Trauma associated with disabilities

In a comfortable and open environment, I offer a highly personalised approach to all individuals in order to address their issues of concern in the most appropriate manner.
