About me

Moving forward

Therapy can help to gain insight into the barriers that are holding us back from fully enjoying life. I have been trained in a range of methods, and my approach is tailored to help you move forward to get what you want out of life.

Initial Session
Choosing a therapist can be daunting, and sometimes it can be difficult to find someone that works for you. I offer a free 30 minute consultation where I will get some background information and you can get a sense of what working with me is like for you.

Sandplay for Adults
I offer sandplay therapy where the client engages with the materials (sand and miniatures) to represent what's going on both conscious and unconscious levels. In this way you can visualise and clarify the conflicting elements in your life that are keeping you stuck while also revealing your strengths in order to increase resiliency. Dilemmas can be expressed and resolved visually. The process can be non-verbal, so is particularly useful for those that have difficulty finding words to describe what's going on for them as well as people that are highly articulate and use talking to distract themselves from what is too scary to look at. Sandplay gently reveals what is frightening in a contained and protected way.

It is always your choice whether to use the sandtray to explore your inner world during a session, to use the time to talk, or both. Sandplay therapy can be an ongoing process where your journey is tracked by the sandtrays you create, or it can be used for a single session to reflect on your lifestyle, ie "how you do life." Sometimes bringing our natural tendencies to our awareness is enough to make a meaningful shift.

Play Therapy
Sometimes children have had experiences that have frightened or confused them and their behaviour changes, either they regress, act out or withdraw. Non-directive play therapy can help them to work out their issues in their most natural language of play.

I also work with children who have difficulty with regulating their emotions. They may not have had any particularly disturbing experience; they just have a more sensitive or anxious temperament than most. This may be due to neurological differences, such as autism, Aspergers or ADHD and learning difficulties.   I use a technique of directive play therapy that has been proven to increase a child's mental flexibility, ability to calm oneself, confidence, self-esteem and sense of well-being. This therapy can involve the parent or caregiver so that the parent-child relationship is strengthened.

I have experience working with families where children are violent to their parents or other family members and with children that have selective mutism (they don't speak in certain situations, such as at school) and children with learning difficulties including severe learning difficulties.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained as a play therapist in the USA after completing a masters in clinical social work utilising systems theory and a solution focused approach. I was registered with the Association of Play Therapy for four years until I moved to the UK, where I am registered with the British Association of Play Therapists and with the HPCP for Social Work.

I have been working with parents, children and families for 16 years. In 2012, I completed the two year training in Sandplay Therapy with the British and Irish Sandplay Society.

I have worked in Israel using sandplay in mixed Palestinian and Jewish groups to resolve tensions and support working relationships.

I have completed the introductory level course in Theraplay

I work for the NHS for Child And Adolescent Mental Health Service three days a week.

Sessions are £55 for an hour. I have a sliding scale for students and people eligible for concessions and those on low income.

I also offer a one-off sandplay assessment is £100 for 90 minutes.

If you don't have time or funds to pay for regular sessions but want to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and what might be holding you back, a sandplay assessment can help you discover the key conflicts that are immobilizing you and uncover some solutions in your life. Couples can use it to examine relationship issues in a safe, experiential way.
