I started my counselling career 10 years ago, completing my training at Nottingham University. Prior to this my career was in Youth work for 25 years. I have been able to transfer many skills and knowledge from youth work to working with young people in the counselling profession.

  • Eating Disorders

What is Counselling and how can it help you?

Counselling is about how you are feeling, the difficulties you are experiencing, the emotional load you are carrying, and is a means to help you heal from any pain and problems. Counselling is also an opportunity to help you understand yourself and how you relate to others, becoming more aware of the causes of your problems. This helps you understand yourself better and provides you with some techniques to help you cope.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I am available on:

Tuesday to Thursday working flexibly am & pm.

When clients make initial contact with me about their availability to attend counselling, I will return contact within 24 hours. We can then arrange a time and day. If a client wishes to obtain further details about counselling, we can then discuss this prior to a counselling session.

At the first counselling session, clients will be asked to sign a working contract with myself. This will agree a therapeutic working relationship between counsellor and client. Clients will also complete a questionnaire to outline their problems and how these have impacted on them during the last week. Clients can terminate counselling at any time during the counselling period. During the last counselling session, clients will be asked to complete an evaluation, outlining their experience of counselling, and if they need further help from another agency. I specialise in face to face and online counselling work.

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.
