About me

Over a decade of experience.

I am now seeing clients in person.

Video and telephone calls are still available.

I offer therapy for couples and individual clients and a free initial ten minute telephone consultation.

I am a qualified experienced integrative counsellor and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). Being an integrative counsellor means that I, and more importantly - we,  can use a range of different approaches that are determined by you and your presenting problem. They enable both of us to work together to further understand your unique story. I offer a safe, non-judgemental, quiet and confidential space for both of us to work, at your own pace, on difficulties that you are currently facing in your life. They may have been buried for some time and are now surfacing or they could be concerns that you may have about the future.

Whether you require therapy for yourself, as a couple or for somebody else this profile will attempt to give the reader a comprehensive outline of the counselling or therapeutic process. If you are uncertain about any of the areas I cover or have further questions then please call me or email and I will be happy to answer them for you.

An initial telephone consultation is free and there is no obligation to book an appointment.

Therapy is undertaken in a very large airy room, a picture of the room can be found at the end of this profile and on my own website:

www.ajjcounselling.co.uk

A toilet is available for client use.

Many of my clients have said that talking about their issue has given them great comfort and allowed them to 'listen' to themselves in a different way. In doing so they were able to gently challenge themselves and begin to deeply understand and address their own self-defeating behaviour and negative internal dialogue that were maintaining a constant cycle of problems and conflict in their lives.

Sometimes the first step is the hardest as the prospect of talking to somebody you don't know about very personal issues can be overwhelming. However, once you are able to take that step you may find that a qualified stranger may help you to begin a journey of increased self-awareness that enables you to sustain an effectiveness in confronting and resolving your own issues as they arise.

Sessions last for 50 minutes. We can work on a short or long term basis.

Please feel free to contact me via email or telephone if you have any questions and I will be happy to help.

Client Testimonials

The following clients have given their permission to share anonymised data about their experiences of therapy with me.

From the start Anthony made me feel so comfortable and I found it easy to open up about things I'd never told anyone. He helped me from a place of depression and anxiety to the best place I've felt for years. The tools he taught me are constantly helping me to understand myself and feel better and I'm so appreciative of his help.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Going for therapy for the first time was the hardest step. After that the rest was easy. After my first session with Anthony, he had already helped me to retune my outlook. I was having difficulty coming to terms with some big fall outs in my family and had become entrenched in a bottomless pit of questions making me become resentful to others close to me and the resulting negativity was beginning to take its toll on my marriage. Anthony helped me move on from feeling sorry for myself, to become outward facing, be a better listener and concentrate on the positive aspects of life. I am now has a happy as I can remember being. It has been an empowering process as demonstrated now by an almost automatic ability to listen and help others. Anthony is very professional, an incredible listener and I could not believe how much detail he was able to recall from previous sessions. I will go to Anthony again if I ever needed further guidance and would certainly recommend him. Thanks Anthony.

I wanted to thank you for all of your time, support and empathetic attitude and positivity throughout therapy. I feel the happiest I've been and so settled in our new home, a few anxious moments but I now feel like I understand them, I go with it and they pass very quickly! My medication has also been reduced by half over the last few weeks and I feel great.

Again, thank you so much for all of your help, it is greatly appreciated by me and the people close to me.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was a bit sceptical at first as I did not know what to expect. I soon found myself talking about things that I hadn't really spoke about before. It seems unusual that just by talking I could come out and stay out of my depression that I had suffered for years. I wish I had seen you earlier.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hadn't cried like that before, I felt so embarrassed but Anthony allowed me to feel what I wanted and gradually helped me to name and understand my feelings. This helped me to take control and not rely on others.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After about three sessions I was able to talk about something I have only spoke to my doctor about. I was told by my doctor that I had penile erectile dysfunction. I did not want to rely on medication so I started therapy with Anthony and was able to look at my psychology that was causing really anxious and embarrassing moments with girlfriends. Talking about me and my family growing up has almost entirely got rid of my original problem. Thanks once again.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a BSc (Hons) First Class Degree in Counselling.

I first started studying Counselling in 2005 and was awarded the highest grades at Certificate and Intermediate Certificate levels. Prior to setting up my own practice I trained and worked for over two years at an agency in London specialising in sexual, psychological and domestic abuse.

My clients there were from different ethnicities, cultures and backgrounds. They shared with me their very personal lives which enabled me to gain an invaluable insight into the complexities of abuse and its associated difficulties such as shame, guilt, fear, anxiety, depression and anger.

I have been in private practice for over 7 years and have spent 1000's of hours with clients. I specialise in anger and associated feelings such as insecurity, helplessness, inadequacy, fear, depression, anxiety which often play out in relationship issues.

My clientele have been from all walks of life. Some from the list have included barristers, doctors, police officers, teachers, nurses, builders, lorry divers, successful business people and millionaires. Their concerns or issues have been extremely varied and it is impossible to give an exhaustive list. To give the reader some idea my clients have presented with anxiety, depression, anger, feelings of suicide, dealing with suicide of a loved one, relationship issues, loneliness, guilt, drug and alcohol dependence, grief, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation and vaginismus.   All have needed to talk and I have felt honoured that they could share, often in intimate detail, their life with me.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
