About me

I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist who does Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I like to enable people, in warm, non judgmental and down to earth ways, to make positive life changes. I have worked in the NHS for 19 years. Coming for therapy is I know a very personal and private experience.

I can help you with areas such as anxiety, health anxiety, OCD, depression and isolation.  The pandemic has had additional long term negative effects on us all.

Knowing how challenging it can be for you to attend, my aim is to help you to feel at ease in talking about yourself and your situation.

Please feel free to have a free phone consultation to clarify if I can help you, before your first therapy session.  For I feel it is essential that you can find the right person for you.

My Approach
I use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and will look at the factors that are maintaining your current difficulties.  I am very interested in Mindfulness and in Paul Gilbert’s Compassion Focused Therapy. an ACT - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.  In private practice, I work with clients with both routine and complex problems.

I respect the progress people have made, with little steps or bigger changes, in everyday situations or in very adverse and traumatic circumstances, which shows the resilience of the human spirit.

My Personal Experience
Having had therapy myself at various challenging, troubled times in my life, I can see that having a caring and skilled person to 'walk down that road' with can make all the difference to getting or feeling better sooner.

I work with clients with the range of problems described below, including anxiety, OCD and depression.   I offer on-line and telephone sessions.

Training, qualifications & experience

My Qualifications
I have a BSc in Psychology and Masters in Clinical Psychology.

I am a Registered and Chartered Clinical Psychologist.  I am registered with the BPS (British Psychological Society and the HCPC (Health and Care Professionals Council) and I am a member of the BABCP (British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies). I abide by the ethical framework of good practice for all these organisations.  I feel it is very important to keep up with my own training and continuing professional development and I also have regular supervision.

My Experience
I have a wide range of experience. Since qualifying in Liverpool, I have been working in adult mental health services in the NHS for 19 years, having worked in Wales for 7 years and then in London for 12 years, as a Specialist Clinical Psychologist in a Psychological Therapies Service and then in a Complex Care Team and also in GP surgeries and a private Hospital.  I have supervised trainees and other professionals and taught on a Doctoral Clinical Psychology course.  I volunteered at a Women's Centre for a few years, facilitating a cancer support group.
