Annie Cox MBACP
Amidst the confusion and havoc of today's world, I offer my clients a safe space within which I help them to focus on their issues, to find solutions or ways of coping and to restore balance in their lives. I firmly believe that we all have the inner strength and resources we need to cope with the traumas of life. It's just that sometimes, somewhere along the way, we lose sight of these.
I am a fully qualified counsellor offering therapy from home, in a peaceful, private room and with on site parking.
I became interested in counselling 12 years ago, when I observed how it helped a close friend through a very dark time in her life. Subsequently, through the counselling courses I have studied and also the personal counselling I have undertaken, I am discovering a richness and fulfillment of life and an inner peace.
My personal sessions have given me an insight into the processes of counselling, from the client's perspective.
Since qualifying I have worked as a volunteer, counselling adolescents and young people, then moved on to counselling individuals in my private practice. My main qualification is Gestalt, but I have also studied other forms of therapy and adapt sessions to suit the individual needs of my clients.
Can counselling help?
Undertaking counselling means gifting yourself time to safely explore whatever is causing the discomfort in your life.
It may be that you have specific issues such as bereavement or anger management that you would like to address.
It may be that you are experiencing changes to your life and need help in moving on.
Perhaps life has become tangled and overwhelming and you are finding it hard to cope, leaving you suffering from severe depression and/or anxiety and feeling out of control.
Work related stress, relationship breakdown- divorce/separation- can cause or speed up what seems to be a downward spiral, often accompanied by low self esteem.
In therapy, you can explore what is causing you distress and then find ways of coping. I will be there to support you and help you through this process. I will gently guide you and help you to find your inner strengths and resources, which will enable you to have choice of action and to regain control in your life. I will listen to you- really listen- and together we will find solutions.
Our initial session is free of charge, to give you an opportunity to find out more about how we might work together. You will meet me, with no committment, and see the therapy room so you can decide whether this feels right for you. I will carry out an initial assessment of your issues and what you are hoping to gain from counselling; we can discuss possible ways forward.
You will find me warm, non-judgemental and respectful.
